  • Just got home from the most beautiful concert I've ever been to... Girlfriend in a coma, first in the gang, there is no such thing in life as normal, I have forgiven Jesus... My throat is sore, my legs are stiff but I'm oh so happy! He really seemed to like Gothenburg, but it's a pity he leave for Sthlm already this evening. The plan was to go out tonight and spend the evening at places he maybe, maybe (there could be a chance) could be going to.. But ofcourse, he's Morrissey, he would be going directly to the hotel room (apperently in Sthlm) and eat an orange or something. As you see my words are just blurring out, don't know really what to say more than... I'll never forget this eavening, I'll never forget his beautiful face and his soft voice. His words. I tried just to stop and think about what I experienced (I had a hard time doing that whith houndreds of others pushing my back as I was just below the stage). Well, at least I'll sleep good to night. Better than for a very long time, 'cause, you know, life's a pigsty sometimes...

The youngest was the most loved
    Life is a pigsty

Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me

His shirt was almost impossible to tear apart. I had to struggle for about three songs before I got hold of a little piece of it. but it was worth it.

    Morrissey tried to speak swedish:
    "Hej Göteborg!"

    then

    "Welcome to the ice-rink."

"Are your feet cold? Just think of Brian Joubert?
    Do you know him?"
    Audience: "Yes!"
    "who is he then?"
    Audience: "Ice skater"

    "Tonight we're going to Stockholm."
    Audience: "buuuu!!!"
"Which is a city that you like."
    Audience: "nooo:"
    "compared to ....Hongkong for example."

I just got back to Copenhagen. Great show, Moz in top form, I've never heard him sing better, but of course this is the first show on the European tour. The crowd was a bit on the tame side. The set list the same as in Austin:

First Of The Gang To Die / Still Ill / You Have Killed Me / The Youngest Was The Most Loved / Reader Meet Author / I Have Forgiven Jesus / I Will See You In Far-off Places / My Life Is A Succession Of People Saying Goodbye / Girlfriend In A Coma / Let Me Kiss You / Life Is A Pigsty / Trouble Loves Me / How Soon Is Now? / At Last I Am Born / I Just Want To See The Boy Happy / Irish Blood, English Heart // Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me

Highlights of the concert for me was Trouble Loves me and 'How soon is now'. The usual band, all wearing pink shirts, no Alain Whyte.

Then I also got to hold his hand during Irish Blood, English Heart and I didn't want to let go so he nearly fell off stage, he would have if there hadn't been an alert guard that kept him up at it.

The concert was just fantastic, Morrissey sang amazing and was very attractive and funny. The best night of my life. I will never forget it - and this was the first time I saw him. It just couldn't have been any better.

  • Here's a link to the concert review in Sweden's third biggest newspaper (in Swedish). http://www.gp.se/gp/jsp/Crosslink.jsp?d=286&a=2678 83

A brief summary in terribly bad English:

    5/5
"Some geistures are impossible to forget and Morrissey, who lays his hand on his heart in "I have forgiven Jesus", will stay on my retina long after the concert in Göteborg.

Because even if Morrissey is having one of his most joyous evenings, he speaks Swedish, praises Göteborg, Tommy Körberg, the chocolate and lets himself being pulled into the crowd, is he also utterly serious.

One could also say that Morrissey gives his version of schlager. A schlager from the down and out in society. He gives the melodies a volumnious grandeur and shows artful poses but he is deadly honest when he don't know who to turn to with all the naked desire and lust. You can see all people in the audience receiving the message in most diverse ways. Some of them can't stand still and some of them are being drawn to the stage in order not to miss a single word.

The European first night is just simply perfect. The songs from the last album "You are the Quarry" are still the most popular but the blend of new and old is the best I have heard from him. In powerfull anthems like "I will see you in far-off places" the bass makes the body pound and the ballads makes the heart bleed. Even the dismissed album "Maladjusted" is represented by "Trouble Loves Me" and there is nothing I would like to be without, just getting more of.

Morrissey's voice has only become better through the years and the band manages to find the right tune between the seriousness of the kettledrums and the forever light guitars in "Girlfriend in a Coma". Michael Farrel, one of the newest in the band, is not often mentioned and he gives the songs nuances with accordion, harmonium and trumpets, when no string ensembles are to be found. Certainly the recorded childrens choir would not have been needed because the band is doing the backing vocals just as good. Boz Boorer gets lost on the guitars in the end of "Life is a Pigsty" but Morrissey makes just that song a signum for the whole concert - A "My Way" of our time."

  • He should pull someone out of the crowd at random.. and then do an improptu duet with them..

    What about "Interlude?"

That would surely go down well!

Or... Morrissey leaves the stage and gives Boz and the others chance to make up their own Draize Train?

  • In Still Ill he sang "England is swine and it owes me a living" instead of "England is mine"

In You Have Killed me he sang "Pasoloíni is me, Visconti you'll be".

And in At last I'm Born he sang "Vegetarians know, I'm Finally Born" Instead of "Vulgarians know".

After At Last I am born he also said something about that he wasn't entirely born, don't remember exactly what he said but there was something that caught my attention.

Before the concert, several songs were played, the audienced quite fancied "Judy min vän" av Tommy Körberg and some wanted Moz to sing this song and he replied even if he didn't really understod what they were saying.

When he said that he was going to visit "Bingolotto" many in the audience asked why but din't get no reply.

Boz Boorer was near the audience some time when he was playing guitar and he really seemed to like it. No of the others was near the audience but some in the audience were chanting "Gary, Gary!".

Moz thanked for Marabou choclate. One person in the front row was holding a small canadian flag as a protest against his boycott but this didn't get his attention but some in the audience yelled "Canada is a Pigsty".

Merchandise was sold but it was quite expensive.
T-shirts with the M-monograme cost 270 SEK for the dark blue and 300 SEK for the light blue. Two grey t-shirts with the tour on the back was also sold for 270 SEK. The Boysfriends sold a red t-shirt but didn't see the price. And there was a sweatshirt with a zipper for 600 SEK, it was really nice.

Don't remember anything from the Boyfriends playlist but they played their upcoming single and a song called "I Love you". I'm sorry but dosen't remember anything else.

At about 16-17 Moz was going by the main entrance were everyone were queueing in a dark blue Volvo S70 but had to stop because of red light. Some fans then recognized him and ran to the car surrounding it, a fan even began to pray to him. Saw this at distance but think a bodyguard came out so they could continue their trip. Moz had a bodyguard or something down by the stage all the time so that no one should drag him down, he also directed the security guards by the stage.

Moz had a ring but it didn't look like an engagement ring, it was in silver and had many tiny diamond-looking stones on it.

  • 6 songs from his new album on the supporting tour - must be a record low?

Or is it because the album isn't out yet?

I think it's better this way - plenty of new songs but lots of classics too; and some which have never been given an outing.
