  • Just made it home to SF. Such a fantastic show. He was in rare form, and the crowd was respectful with a few dancing bears and potsmokers. Set list similar, Panic (is this a new addition?) was a big hit, no There is a Light or Suedehead:(
Showed his naked self one time from the front for 3 seconds, aw!
2 stagecrashers and lots of funny quips I hope someone else remembers them, many shouts out to Julia!
Can't wait to see him at the Hollywood Bowl June 8:)

  • That's what he said during a rant about American TV. There were just a few changes from previous nights.

            9:38pm on
    00. Imperfect List
    01. The Queen Is Dead
    02. First Of The Gang To Die
    03. The Youngest Was The Most Loved
    04. You Have Killed Me
    05. Disappointed
    06. Panic
    07. All You Need Is Me
    08. Lucky Lisp
    09. In The Future When All's Well
    10. Ganglord
    11. The National Front Disco
            (changes shirt)
    12. The Boy With The Thorn In His Side
    13. Everyday Is Like Sunday
    14. I've Changed My Plea To Guilty
    15. I Will See You In Far Off Places
    16. Life Is A Pigsty (writhing on the floor at the end, sharp transition to...)
    17. How Soon Is Now? (writhing again)
    18. Let Me Kiss You
            (tosses shirt)
    19. I Just Want To See The Boy Happy
            10:38pm off for encore
    20. Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want (a bit shrill)
    21. You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side
            10:47pm off

The sound was great, but the reserved seating was made the show a bit sterile. Two people made it on stage but were tackled. He shook hands with many though.

    More later,

  • This was my first Morrissey show since moving to the West Coast and I have to say I was somewhat disappointed by the crowd. Morrissey opened with the Queen is Dead and it almost seemed like many people in the crowd didn't even know the song. He made a few comments in the beginning so I'm sure he noticed as well.

Amazing set list and the band was flawless as usual. My favorite part of the show was when he was explaining about the Jimmy Kimmel show and how he got passed over for a boneless chicken commercial. haha. Then made a reference to American commercials and how everything on them kills you. Witty as always, could we expect anything less?

Song highlight for me was definitely "National Front Disco" and "I've Changed My Plea to Guilty."

Wish I could see another show..

  • We waited after the show on the the top floor of the garage across the street where our car was parked. When we were walking to the car, we heard a commotion and saw a bunch of security guards running down the street where the buses were parked. So we waited about 15 minutes and we saw Moz walk out and onto the bus. No waves or anything, just very quick. By chance, we passed the bus on West Grand and made a u turn to follow it to see if it was Moz's bus and it was! Same driver. Drove pretty slow. We followed for a bit but decided not to go all the way on the freeway, wasn't sure if he might be heading to a hotel in SF or on to Santa Rosa. I wouldn't want to bother him either way. Sigh. Waved out the sunroof to the bus and came home. I'm still kind of kicking myself for not following it. Oh well.

We had third row seats behind the pit. It was an excellent show. I was so happy he did First of the Gang To Die. Did anyone else see the guy who got on stage and was trying to crawl to Morrissey but got pulled away by his pants? Poor guy!

  • The show was absolutely amazing, maybe the best time i've seen him?!! I thought Reno was amazing, but I think tonight just might have topped it! I was a bit worried at first, as others said the crowd seemed a bit lackadaisical but there seemed to be a slow buildup cause people seemed to get more into it as the evening wore on....Moz was SUPER chatty and in a great mood! I was THRILLED he did Please Please Please! arrrrggghhhh I was standing right above the pit when he took his shirt off and threw it into the crowd.....what a melee! Some guy shoved his piece into my face and it smelled nice! hahaha

was happy to hear "panic" but wish he'd have kept "suedehead" in the set. ah well, "the queen is dead" was glorious and "please, please, please.." was very good, but seemed jesse had some guitar issues getting the mandolin effect to work correctly.

the new song, "all you need is me", grew on me more the second time around...

"in the future when all's well" "first of the gang to die" and "lucky lisp" were my other favorites of the night...

  • Here's a quip approximation:

"Do not bother with requests - we stick to the programme"

National front Disco was an unexpected treat although how many Americans in Oakland know what England for the English means? Of course, we were all sitting in a hotbed of anti-Mexican racism at the time.

Morrissey, how did you write Please Please Please when you were -- what? -- 21 years old? Same for This Night has Opened my Eyes which probably wouldn't work live very well.

There are so many other songs to choose from and I imagine that at our ages, well, we're always going to leave the venue wanting more, more, more. It's time to retire How Soon is Now although the band certainly gives it justice.

We will miss you when you're gone!

    Thank you!

  • Upon witnessing my sixth Morrissey show and my first outside the Greater Los Angeles area, I was delighted and dazzled by our Moz's sterling performance, all the more admirable when you consider how blah the Oakland crowd was. Though I've been working a Beatle-esque mop top as of late, in deference to my Rockabilly years in SoCal in which I sported a truly fabulous pompadour and enjoyed attending Moz concerts as nearly the sole white guy amid a legion of Mexican greasers, I did my bright red hair into the tallest of pomps only to arrive bewildered by the absolute dearth of what I once considered to be the typical Moz concertgoer. Few rockabillyboys and chicana pink ladies in existence there which would perhaps explain the relative solemnity of this Bay Area bunch. Moz persisted though and delivered a magical evening - memorable to seasoned Mozites like myself due to his inclusion of certain gems like Lucky Lisp (what I consider to be his celebration of the curse/blessing of homosexuality prevalant among many a cultural/historic figure...'Jesus made this all for you love, you love, you love, you love!) the archtypal Smithian piece Boy With The Thorn In His Side and a fab new number that rocked called "All You Need Is me" (as much as Morrissey deserves to self-mythologize, it saddens us so on certain songs like this one and Rubber Ring and You Know I Couldn't Last when he reminds us that there will be a time when our Healer must say goodbye). The show was a knock out for newbies as well as my best friend Matt was seduced by Morrissey's sweet vocal stylings and truly brilliant stage presence. I am a singer-songwriter myself and I must confess watching the man work the stage as he does with such ease and emotional connection is something to behold and inspires me more than anyone else. The cherry to my sweet evening was during You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side as I surrepticiously crept up 23 rows to the very front left side and as Moz was exiting he came to my outstretched arm and held my hand for a moment first before giving love to a few other lucky fans amid our throng. As I touched our hero for a few moments it reminded me of the last time I saw him at Universal Amphitheatre when I got to hold his hand for 10 seconds during "Everyday Is Like Sunday" - when you look straight into his eyes you see a man that is an artist, a survivor, a speader of truths and imbued with a heart of love. Morrissey we love you forever!

Does anyone else feel truly disappointed that we wasn't treated to such treasures on one set list???
