Fantastic show. Really small venue which Morrissey commented on. Also a heavy smell of dope in the air, which Moz also mentioned!
No set-list surprises, opened with Charming man. Really was worth the $200 for the ticket and the flight over to NYC, thanks to Darren and Mozgrrl for arranging the ticket, it all worked perfectly. 34th Morrissey show and I got my first hand shake!
    Off to Phily tommorow.....

That's the only word I can think of right now. Morrissey radiated warmth, humor, charm and joy, with an exquisite dash of mordant, graveyard wit.

The venue was intimate, and the crowd was INSANE. Don't let the lack of invaders fool you, the audience threw Morrissey a powerful love, and he threw it right back.

I'll leave the details to others. All I can say is that tonight Morrissey was still one of the handsomest, most engaging singers alive. To everyone who is anxiously reading these reviews and fearing the worst, let me assure you that he can still mesmerize a crowd, and have them eating out of the palm of his hand.

His voice did not waver, and his hands really are cold and smooth and firm as stone.

  • Tonight's show was, in a word, awesome! The Bowery is TINY, and the closest you'll ever get to Moz playing in your living room. And it felt like he was playing in my living room...with 500 guests packed in.

I've been to many, many shows, and this was the most physical show I've been to. You literally could not move a muscle the way we were packed in. It was hot, sweaty, elbows to the head, crowd swaying like the ocean, and everyone into it. They should all be like this! Same (somewhat ho hum) set list as the previous show, but didn't matter. He could have been doing Spice Girls covers and the experience would have still been amazing.

I shook the man's hand about 5 times, and it was sublime. He was extremely chatty tonight, handed out the microphone twice to 2 idiots who could not have been more boring...and the one girl who not only cursed, but didn't even mention Morrissey, just talked about Boz and Solomon. Really?!?! MORRISSEY hands you his mic and you don't even acknowledge him? Inexplicable. Anyway, still was just a fantastic night, worth the $250 and then some, and was an experience that cannot be adequately put into words.

You had to be there. You weren't? What a shame. A couple successful stage invaders would have really added a cherry on top, but no one could move, so I'm not surprised no one got up.

  • This was by far the best Moz concert that I have ever attended. Still sleep deprived and at a loss for words I'll just offer you all a couple photos (and video clips before they shut me down) from the first row. A lot of them are blurry w/o the flash but a couple came out okay.

  • Amazing show (Score:3, Interesting)

Absolutely amazing show. Bowery was incredibly tiny and when he came on stage everyone was smashed against the stage. What an incredible experience. He came out to shake hands before singing, and also took my New York Dolls record!

I got two handshakes from Moz, one from Boz, and also s stare (or maybe a glare) from Moz at the end.

The only complaint was that one guy behind me must have been pushing and shoving some people because I heard a tif and even Boz came to the front of the stage to yell at them to stop. But oh well, love peace and harmony...

Also, I must say that Boz and Solomon are even better up close. Boz was in top form (as always) and was dancing all over the stage. What a great show.

  • Apologies if people have previously said this, but it seems there aren't a lot of YoR tracks being played at the shows.

It seems a shame; I'd have loved to hear most of them live.

  • When he came on stage: "Does anyone here have a dead cat? No? I'd love to swing one around."

He gave the mike to a woman who praised the Walker Brothers (quiet rightly), used the word "f****ng," and said "pardon my French." Morrissey rolled his eyes and said "That's not French."

He wrinkled his nose at the crowd and said "I'm not used to the smell in here. It may have a strange effect on me."

    My personal favorite:

"I cannot be loved, I cannot be loved, I cannot be loved - I refuse to be loved."

He brought up the history of the Bowery, and mentioned some famous performers from the early 20th century. Morrissey always does his homework.

Perhaps someone got more accurate quotes - they're always worth noting. I went to work shortly after returning home, so the grey matter is shot.

  • For the completists and the lyrically obsessed out there, I want to make note of the little change Moz has been making to "Ask."

Towards the end of the song he's been singing, "If it's not love...then it's military might, it's macho military might that will bring us together."

Thanks to Youtube, I've been able to track the origin of this to 3/13/09 in Richmond, where he skipped "macho," but sang the "military might" part.

I can't find "Ask" from the DC show on Youtube, but by Montclaire on 3/16/09 he made the change to "macho military might" that has stuck all the way through the Bowery show.

In previous performances from 2008, Moz was usually singing it as "a nuclear bomb that will bring us together."

  • A 35th.birthday i will never forget!!
I came over from the UK for 3 nights to see Morrissey and The Courteeners(who i met before and after the show and had a chat and some photos taken with them, very nice guys).
The venue was amazing and well worth the $300 i paid(yes,i know!!)
    The setlist was okay.....
I liked the new songs and was particually pleased to hear Seasick Yet Still Docked and Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself.
Setlists are never easy to choose from such a vast back catalogue.

The people inside the Bowery were very friendly and talkative, anyone that can remember me i was the excited english man, thanks for putting up with me and being so friendly.
I love Moz fans, just enough madness without going overboard.
I met a lovely couple,Eric and Diane i think,if you happen to read this please reply. And a Courteners fan i met needs to get in touch, lost details?!!
Moz replied to my question i shouted.....Who are you? And i was the silly one who threw my England top on stage.
I can't wait to show off my 'I Love Moz' top in London when i see him twice in May.
