Watch: Johnny Marr and Hans Zimmer perform Inception score
It turns out Johnny Marr’s involvement in the forthcoming Inception goes beyond collaborating with the equally legendary Hans Zimmer on the film’s score. Last night, the former Smiths and Modest Mouse/current Cribs guitarist teamed up with Zimmer and a 20 piece orchestra for a live performance of the score, reports The Playlist.

The performance took place at El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles shortly after the film received its premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood. And while the event was a private party, us common folk can relive the concert on ustream.tv. The performance begins at the 53:00 mark. There’s also an interview with Marr and Zimmer at the 50:30 mark.

Inception hits theaters July 16th. The soundtrack drops on CD and digital three days earlier and on vinyl August 3rd.

Johnny Marr guitar site
...I stumbled across this excellent site devoted to Johnny Marr's work with The Smiths:
http://smithsonguitar.blogspot.com/

There are lots of guitar tabs and anecdotes about the songs collected from other sources but it's a great site none the less.

A new flower is to be named in honour of Johnny Marr

  • I thought this was morrissey-solo.com . I seem to have stumbled upon marr-solo.com . Forgive me.

Ok two stupid comments up here so far but I'll deal with you first. You know full well this site posts anything slightly related to Moz and the smiths. Marr posts are closer to Moz info than the litter of Joyce and Rourke posts. If this site was just Moz info it would be down for years at a time.

  • I'm offended that a flower is to be named after Johnny Marr. That guy is so overrated. Surely the flower should have been named Alain, in honour of the finest composer the world has ever known. Alain saved Morrissey's career.

  • And so is the soundtrack. Good on Johnny!

  • c'mon guys! without marr, moz wouldn't be what he is today! yeah, the sites called "morrissey-solo" but considering some of the LAME-O stuff this site posts, this is an interesting story.

i can't believe people could say the composer for our beloved smiths is overrated.

and I'M UNDER 30! Been a smiths/moz fan for 12 years. yes, morrissey's solo career has been more prolific, but how dare anyone say a bad thing about marr, the smiths, or the lovely melodies they produced together. boo.

          • WE GET IT! Alain rules!

We LOVE alain. We really do. He's def helped shaped Moz into an iconic solo superstar.

I know what ppl think of marr these days. Heck! He's made my hood his new home. Buddies call me with Marr sighting often (although I havent personally had one, which is probably best because i'd just pass out dead right there on the floor of Holoscene LOL).

Portland, hipsters, tattoos, annoying indie bands. It's all very disenchanting, I agree.

            BUT!

I think what Marred and I are trying to say is...let's just give credit where credit's due. and dammit! it's due to Johnny Marr!
