I worked as a background extra on Irish Blood, English Heart. The video was shot over two days in a converted studio in Glendale, California. Morrissey wore a pristine, tailored white jacket, nice jeans and a white shirt. Also appearing were Alain, Gary, Boz, Dean, and brand new member on keyboards Mike (sorry I didn't get his last name.) The setting of the video was like a private intimate rehearsal with about 60 "fans" in attendance. I use the term "fan" loosely because from what I could tell I'd say only about 20% of us were actual fans while the rest seemed more like casual observers who didn't fit the usual L.A. Morrissey fan profile. I'm puzzled as to why they didn't seek out a turnout of true die-hard fans. Between takes, the band were very talkative to all in attendance. Morrissey himself would initiate conversation with us and was quite cheerful. One girl asked who Oliver Cromwell is/was. He playfully scolded her for not knowing and proceeded to give her a history lesson. Alain in particular spent most of the time talking with background extras and playing little tidbits of songs on his guitar. He beamed with pride about "You Are The Quarry" and says that everyone is gonna love this album. Mike, the new keyboard player, will be joining them on this tour making them a six-piece. I was told his most recent gig was with Macy Gray. He was brought to the band's attention through Dean. Dean is now sporting a mohawk haircut reminiscent of DeNiro's in Taxi Driver. An all-vegeterian dinner was provided for all cast and crew. --- An anonymous person also writes: My friend just called because he was leaving a friend's house in Glendale when he notice a production of some sort, while inquiring he learned it was Morrissey filming a video for his latest single "Irish Blood, English Heart". An assortment of extras were hanging around the production, many were Morrissey fans. The location seemed to be a furniture store.

On a lighter note, with the presence of a keyboardist, Morrissey can finally regale us with that long-awaited, breathlessly-anticipated encore of The Harsh Truth of the Camera Eye. ;)

Time and time again I have never been able to meet him. Any ideas? Yes I have seen him in concert, and the results were out of this world. I do think alot of Morrissey fans could ruin a video shoot, but- with a lot of structure- it could work out very well. I can't imagine a bunch on non-fans or fashionable vagrants getting the privilege to meet Morrissey. Many of them probably look very nice, but DON'T read books. I bet you half of them didn't even know who Oscar Wilde is/was.
This midwesterner is still hoping.

Who are you? If you’re a fan, we probably chatted in between takes. I was there w/ my sister. Ring any bells?
Morrissey is the most amazing poet and lyricist; clever, intelligent, self aware and handsome. He’s the name, face and the voice of the group but I must humbly admit; Alain was definitely the life and personality of the group (at least in this experience). Now, this charming man deserves more credit then he gets. He's an awesome guitarist and musician. He's down-to-earth, funny, witty, charming (of course) and not to mention extremely handsome! :) He walked around and initiated conversations and joked around with us. I was nervous (duh!). I tend to be more of an observer that anything, so I kind of stayed in the background and watched the interactions of the band members and got a sense of who they are as people, rather than as legends.
What do I, as a faceless person in a crowd, say to someone whom I’ve never met, but who knows me so well that they sing your life? What could I have possibly said to the people who’s poetic lyrics and passionate chords still sing me to sleep? How could I have illustrated to these icons, (whose humanity and realness I’m now experiencing) the role that their morose stories in song have played in my ability to understand that things happen in life for a reason, and that I’m not the only one who has ever felt unlovable? What words do you say, when the person you’re saying them to has already said them all?
I wish I could have been less of a chicken-butt and made more conversation w/ them, especially Alain *grin*. I shook Boz’s hand. He was very polite, but didn’t make conversation like Alain or the drummer did (I’m sorry, I don’t remember the drummers name, but he too was very nice and down-to-earth, as well as handsome.)
I was truly disappointed to have heard many moans and complaints from some of the other extras. I was shocked to learn that a lot of them were actually wanna-be actor/actresses hoping to make their debuts, and not truly Moz fans. There was only a small handful of us fans who you could see the enthusiasm and ardor in their eyes. Honestly, I’m not into being on camera or in the spotlight, I only did it because it was Moz. I went for the experience that will probably never come around again, not to be on T.V., like some.
I hope that if they do decide to do another video that I could have another chance to be there and watch.
