Glenn Hoddle writes:
Two films which Morrissey has said he is a huge fan of are to be given away as free DVDs this weekend by The Telegraph newspaper(UK). Saturday Night and Sunday Morning (a line of dialogue from which is also the title of the debut album by Arctic Monkeys) will be free with the Daily Telegraph on Saturday, and A Taste Of Honey will be free with the Sunday Telegraph.

Not strictly speaking Moz news as such, but just thought Smiths/Moz fans might be interested in getting these!

  • Nice I tried to get the Taste Of Honey dvd in HMV and it was something like £25. Nice one will definitely get both of these.

  • Both of these movies are small masterpieces, and any film collection should contain at least one of them(A Taste Of Honey edges it for me).

If you've never seen A Taste Of Honey, you'll be surprised at how many Morrissey lyrics you'll hear, especially first album lyrics.

Just a pity you've got to buy two shit-rags to get them.
Mind you, you could always steal them and set fire to the paper.

  • Perhaps we should keep this one quiet.I am sure there will be gangs of eager E-Bayers queueing outside newsagents from early morning keen to make another fast buck. I will get my copy of TOH and let the kids use the newspaper to make paper mache heads of ticket touts to play football with.Bitter yet still proud!!!

  • Cheers mi dears for the tip-off! A free Moz-related give-away is the ONLY way to make this hide-bound Observer reader go within 50 paces of the Torygraph!!!

But it will be worth it, cheers, Vinete x

  • The way to try to get the dvds for free without having to buy that rag would be to go to a large store like Sainsburys later in the day and say that you bought the telegraph earlier and there was no dvd in it. Might work.Or when no ones looking take out the dvd of one copy, hide it on the shelf then go to the counter with a copy of the telegraph and say you bought it earlier with no dvd, can you have the dvd please. If its busy they won't care.

    • 1 reply beneath your current threshold.
  • Is there any way at all to get these in the States? This is so unfair

  • Just checked HMVs' website and both these films are £17.99 online and probably more in the shop itself. Well worth getting for free (well for the price of a newspaper). The discs given away have no extra content, already watched Saturday Night... not bad really, quite liked it. Will watch A Taste of Honey later on. Doesn't appear to be any regional restrictions on the discs so should play in any region.

  • Not that I'd want to promote anything but Sky Cinema 1 and 2 show these two classics on rotation a lot along with a few other 1960s kitchen sink melodramas - all highly watchable.

Ready with ready wit, still running round................
  • This was a BFI promo together with the Telegraph. The DVD packaging were really well designed (whether or not for freebies) - 60's poster-style gatefold sleeve included with the Saturday edition with a slot for the Sunday DVD. Thanks for drawing our attention to it.
