  • What a silly time to put it on, i have to be up at 5 & am so incredibly hungover, i'll be asleep at 9 after a cup of horlicks.

I wonder how different it is from the un-edited version that was circulating, & whether you'll see more of Alain in the finished version. Ooooh.

  • Amusingly, a few people on the messageboard have reported LBC radio are quoting Morrissey in the ringleader of the tormentors blog at

    www.ringleaderofthetormentors1972.blogspot.com

They're reporting Morrissey "lambasted" them calling them elevator music. Interestingly, they seem to be rpeorting it as though the blog is authentic. LBC is a huge channel with massive income from advertising each eyar so they wouldn't use this story unless they'd checked their sources. Sounds like a bit of a marketing ploy by sanctuary to me.

Of course at any other point during this site's history, this would be front page news. Moz's every utterance seems to be getting as much coverage as it did in his 80s heyday, but you can bet david t won't post this as a story because it will make him look bad!

  • not as good as the Stella Artois ad on before it. Or the one with Twiggy.
But better than the Sainsburys one.

But then Mozzer has never really made a great video. Infact vodeos are rubbish in general. Although I do remember the one for Ultravox's Love's great Adventure being amusing but that was years ago and it would probably look guff now.

i know it looked raw at parts but i wasnt sure if that was part of its charm or not...

there are vhs-style glitches in the recording as well and i really hope that was on purpose as found that to be brilliant.. really giving it an old eurovisiony long lost tape feel...

  • You could see him sing the chorus when he was drumming.

All highly symbolic. After nearly 15 years as Morrissey's key songwriter/guitarist someone else's song has been chosen over his, as the lead-off single. Yet, there he is, drumming and singing along like he hasn't got a care in the world! Especially nice to see after his mysterious disappearance in 2004.

I'm sure Alain's contributions to ROTT will be fantastic, especially Life is a Pigsty. Also looking forward to his upcoming b-side 'Good looking man about town'. Go Alain!

    Pissed off.

  • But they'll never totally finish me off!

I like the song more and more, and the video is simple but cute. How can people be so down on it??

My favourite bits are Morrissey's "Piazza Cavour/What's my life for?" vocals, and the Viva Hate-styled synthesizer break before the last chorus (go Mikey).

Gary wins the prize for coolest looking band member this time out.

And as a poster above mentioned, the expression on Morrissey's face at the end is classic.

ps. The whole band are wearing loose pants (or "trousers" for the Brits) - this is Eurovision circa early '70s, boys.

  • Rather liked it. Nice suit. Brandon Flowers is watching I'm sure. Interesting that it says 'performed by Morrissey' as I thought that was a bad word in the Moz camp. The actual song is growing on me. I get the feeling that this is going to be a deeply thematic album with no obvious singles but an album that needs to be listened to from beginning to end. Can't wait.

  • It's a real grower. It's starting to get under my skin now. The problem is I'm a Moz obsessive and most people listening on Radio 2 aren't. Plus, I've now listened about 30 times and they are unlikely to given the BBC's playlists!

I previously said "superior" Morrissey singles but I'm starting to feel "great" Morrissey single now. Hmmm. It won't win him many new fans though. I predict number 3 in the charts, maybe higher if it's a quiet week.

  • For those of you not in the uk, the video was a pleasant surprise. It must be hard to keep coming up with ideas for new videos but the video was pretty good. An amazing italian announcement before the band start playing and the new song is lively, upbeat and quite funny.

The song should also do well on radio here in the UK - i've been humming it as I drive around for the past few days - and in the video Boz looks like the infamous 'Fumanchu'.... cool, but very funny (scary!) and it's also great that the keyboards are still going strong. Great stuff!!
