Pop group Beatnik Filmstars have been tagged as 'The British Guided By Voices' due to the amount of songs released and also because of the lo-fi recording style. They’ve also been referred to as 'The English Pavement' and lyrically described as 'like Morrissey with a sense of humour'. The website: www.beatnikfilmstars.co.uk - contains more information about them.
Some of their songs are available to play on their myspace blog.
Included there is their cover of The Smiths’ song, Shakespeare’s Sister, and the band’s comment on this choice: -
“We were asked to cover a Smiths song, for a compilation, so we chose Shakey's Sis, we kept it close in structure to the original, because it sounded rubbish when we tried to change it, but we added some of our own lo-fi ness to it, and we quite like the result. We've put it on myspace for a while so you can have a listen. Play it loud! Morrissey, Morrissey, Morrissey!”
