    Morrissey A-Z: "Mountjoy"

Really? Wasn't it obvious on the first listen? Perhaps you should spend more time listening to Morrissey's music instead of analyzing his promotion strategies.

    Morrissey A-Z: "Mountjoy"

Since just few days ago we were reintroduced to the horror of Kid's a Looker, the development from the complacent garbage of 2011 to the adventurous World Peace is indeed staggering. What happened? Did Morrissey for once in his career take note of how peope reacted to those tracks and realized...

    Morrissey A-Z: "Mountjoy"

My favourite track on the regular edition of World Peace and the one on which Morrissey's attempts to write about new subjects works best. An understated but lovely track with a great lyric.

Will you still listen to Marilyn Manson despite the allegations?

Here in Finland the maximum sentence is practically 15--16 years. You can get a lifetime sentence, but if you behave well in the prison, you'll get a pardon around then at the latest. Of course if you're declared criminally insane, you'll never get out again from a mental institution. As for...

    Morrissey A-Z: "The Kid's A Looker"

I'd say it's plausible. But it doesn't make the song any better. To release it as anything else than a b-side is pure self-sabotage.

Morrissey Central "Wikipedia" (June 8, 2021)

Overtly literal reinterpretations are rarely useful. A song might be written specifically about someone, but if you have to know who it is about, it's not then a very good piece of art. It doesn't matter whether We Hate It... is about James or Pol Pot, it's just not a very good song -- and...

Morrissey Central "MORRISSEY NEW ALBUM" (May 30, 2021)

I'm not a graphic designer, but the gothic font of the title is absolutely terrible. Otherwise the cover just looks like somebody did it during the lunch hour, but that title font takes the plunge towards inexcusable.

    Morrissey A-Z: "Mexico"

Because this was played live regularly in the pre-Quarry era, I assumed that this would be one of the key tracks on the album. But instead it was condemned to the most useless format ever, the DVD single, and left off Swords. The "for the want of my love" refrain reminds me of Judas by Depeche...

The Telegraph: "No record label will touch Morrissey – and that’s the music industry’s loss" (June 4, 2021)

In case you haven't noticed, physical sales have collapsed in the last twenty years. Very few artists could be expected to sell millions nowadays, and definitely not Morrissey. If he doesn't agree to a 360 deal, it's very hard for any label to make money with him.

Zack Snyder's recollection of making "Tomorrow" promo video

Thank you for a great post. I personally hate Snyder's aesthetic style too, I was just expressing myself politely. All that slo-mo, all that darkness (in JL even Themyscira looked like a rainy day in Scotland), the idea that superheroes are gods in a fallen world. As for this: "It is just...

The Telegraph: "No record label will touch Morrissey – and that’s the music industry’s loss" (June 4, 2021)

There is also a thing called 360 deal, which has become common when the physical sales have declined. To quote Wikipedia: "The company agrees to provide financial and other support for the artist, including direct advances as well as support in marketing, promotion, touring and other areas. In...

The Telegraph: "No record label will touch Morrissey – and that’s the music industry’s loss" (June 4, 2021)

Well, that's just not true. No evidence from Mozipedia, Marr, Rogan etc. backs that claim. They recorded a whole album (Strangeways) after Sheila and, anyway, there is a video for it, although I do not know about the circumstances it was made in:

The Telegraph: "No record label will touch Morrissey – and that’s the music industry’s loss" (June 4, 2021)

The article is okay and does have a point -- but on the other hand the record companies do have a right to decide who to sign. One also can't complain about not being hired, if one asks for an unreasonable salary.

Poll Would you buy Bonfire Of Teenagers as a download only?

Well, I for one like to check out all kinds of new music. That way I have found many artists and albums I have ended up loving and buying the CD's. Especially the personalized "weekly recommendations" playlist is always interesting, even though most of it is usually not that good. 10 euros per...

Poll Would you buy Bonfire Of Teenagers as a download only?

I still buy CD's but I'm way past buying digital files. If it's released as a download only, I'll stream it then.

Zack Snyder's recollection of making "Tomorrow" promo video

Indeed. Although truth be told, Whedon is more a writer than a director. And Snyder is a deft visual stylist but definitely not a writer. I loved Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse; haven't watched Nevers yet. But I'm depressed about the kind of person Whedon has revealed to have been. Sadly...

    Far-right group invoke Morrissey's name

Considering that they can't even spell his name right, I don't think it's worth any time to consider their motivation.

Zack Snyder's recollection of making "Tomorrow" promo video

Snyder had already been battling the studio with JL for months before the tragedy struck. Nobody was especially amoured with Batman vs Superman, a truly horrible film, and the three hour cut of JL was just more dour protofascist nonsense. Snyder has said that he would have kept on fighting for...

Fiona Dodwell: "The poet without a home: Morrissey has been let down by the music industry" (May 31, 2021)

I liked Dog a lot too and am hoping that Bonfire gets released sooner or later. But Morrissey is 62-year-old man with the delusions of still being able to have hits as easily as artists 40 years younger. He is known for wanting a huge advance, has a well-earned reputation of falling out with...
