What are your favorite phrases? One of mine is:

The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

It's true. One must speak up. People can't read your mind in order to figure out your desires, needs, and thoughts. You must make yourself heard. But one must also have finesse. Can't be too aggressive or whiny. Must be assertive but considerate and polite. And absolutely no passive aggression.
