For Britain YT: "We're proud to stand with Morrissey" (April 20, 2021)

If she's on Twitter using him to recruit & the sneaky cow doesn't even have the decency to @ him in - just jumps on the hashtag - then they have to do something now or it's going to be a bloodbath.
He’s gonna have to make another statement about this very soon...
Otherwise, yes a bloodbath..

I can’t see him doing this though
He’s not one for back tracking especially once he has supported something 😬😬

If Morrissey hates his ‘racist’ Simpsons character, he only has his big mouth to blame

The former Smiths singer is furious with his depiction as an overweight, ham-guzzling xenophobe. Has he lost his sense of humour?

The former Smiths singer is furious with his depiction as an overweight, ham-guzzling xenophobe. Has he lost his sense of humour?

Morrissey has put hand in glove and taken a swing at another venerable institution that has seen better days – long-running cartoon series The Simpsons.

His wrath was triggered by a new episode (airing in the UK next month) titled Panic on the Streets of Springfield and featuring a Morrissey-like singer named “Quilloughby” who has aged into an overweight, washed-up xenophobe. Quilloughby’s latest album is called “Refugees – Again?” and his reunion concert concludes with the bequiffed star vindictively firing sausages into the audience. No matter what you think of Morrissey it’s no mystery why this lifelong vegan might not see the funny side.

“The hatred shown towards me from the creators of The Simpsons is obviously a taunting lawsuit, but one that requires more funding than I could possibly muster in order to make a challenge,” Morrissey wrote online. “There is no place in modern music for anyone with strong emotions … In a world obsessed with Hate Laws, there are none that protect me.”

The controversial skit is passably amusing at best. As with Morrissey, The Simpsons’ gladiola-waving prime is long behind it. Yet it mercilessly skewers Morrissey by depicting him as a ghastly parody of the romantically doomed, Wildean figure he cut in The Smiths.

“Shut yer gobs ye w_____s,” Quilloughby (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) screams at fans at a comeback gig by his band “The Snuffs”. “Can’t you see this show is just a cash grab? I lost my fortune suing people for saying things about me…that were completely true.” Lisa Simpson, a huge Snuffs devotee, watches in horror. As does the imaginary version of a younger Quilloughby who has traveled to the show with her. “Is this what I turned into? I’m greedy, I’m hateful, and my face looks like a syphilitic moon”.

Morrissey – ahem, Quilloughby – proceeds to chomp on a ham sandwich. “You’re vegan!” shouts a fan. “I was until I found out veganism was invented by foreigners, of whom they are far too many on this planet,” yells the singer, his pot-belly poking through his shirt. “That’s right: I hate the foreigners, coming into this country taking our jobs, sleeping with our men…”

You wonder which will be considered the bigger insult by Morrissey aficionados: the claim the singer has let himself go or that he’s a racist. They will surely not argue that his songwriting is on a downward slope, his recent solo records are bloodless parodies of his Smiths glory days.

His list of outbursts is meanwhile long and distressing. These include claims that halal meat is “evil”, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan “cannot talk properly” and that Hitler was “left wing”. He has also, it is true, stated that he “despised racism” and voiced his support for Muslims. And yet appearing on stage during a Broadway residency in 2019 Morrissey wore a badge emblazoned with the logo of far right political party For Britain.

Morrissey’s problematic opinions have led many of his peers to distance themselves. Billy Bragg wrote on Facebook in 2019 that it was “beyond doubt” that Morrissey was “spreading far right ideas”. Johnny Marr, Morrissey’s former foil in The Smiths, responded succinctly to a question on social media about the quartet getting back together by suggesting his former bandmate had a better chance of hiring “Nigel Farage” on guitar.

If his contemporaries are dismissive, the generation of artists that grew up on The Smiths is even angrier. “It’s just so depressing,” Torquil Campbell of Toronto indie band Stars told me when interviewed him in 2019. “I feel bad for Johnny Marr. I feel bad for me – they’re my favourite band of all time. I feel bad for all the people who love the Smiths. I can still listen to Morrissey. I can still on a certain level love it. I don’t think the Smiths will ever stop being my favourite band. But it sure is sad to see someone who came so close to understanding things pull away and insulate himself against love, life and people.

“He strikes me as a very sad person now – but not in the way of being sad with us. He’s sad alone. He’s sitting in some house in Los Angeles, watching Fox News, thinking he’s being clever because he disagrees with Billy Bragg. It’s not clever, man.”
As a former indie pin-up turned pop pariah, Morrissey belongs to a club of one. He is also that rare celebrity to have had a public falling out with The Simpsons. Generally, singers and actors have been thrilled to be associated with the show. U2, Sonic Youth, The Rolling Stones and the Smashing Pumpkins are among the rock icons to have visited Springfield, enduring the inevitable mockery with good grace.

Morrissey’s situation is different, of course, in that, rather than a gentle lampooning, The Simpsons has subjected him to a vicious public take-down. Even here, though, he is on his own. Richard Nixon did not object when he portrayed unflatteringly in The Simpsons (it stopped making jokes about him after he passed away). Nor did Arnold Schwarzenegger complain about Rainier Wolfcastle, the recurring lumbering Austrian action movie star with terrible acting abilities.

The only other high profile case of a “celebrity” taking issue with The Simpsons was Goodfellas actor Frank Sivero. He claimed the cartoon mobster Louis, one of Fat Tony’s crew, was based on his persona and that The Simpsons owed him a piece of the action. The courts disagreed: Sivero had been “Simpsons-ised” said a judge and thus “Louis” was protected under American free-speech laws.

To say Morrissey has simply lost his sense of humour would be perhaps too simplistic. On his last major arena tour in 2018 he was in sparkling form. He cracked gags throughout, seeming as invested in teasing the crowd as bashing out his hits. “You look nervous,” he told the audience during the performance I caught . “Have you been reading the newspapers?”. Naturally the taunting did not prevent the 50-somethings around me from having out-of-body experiences when his guitarist slid into the opening notes of Suedehead.

The impression was that he regarded himself as the solitary “funny guy” in the room and expected the punters to bask in his lacerating wit. At a certain level, the gig felt like one massive wind-up. Maybe that’s the difficulty. Morrissey still likes to crack a joke – but seemingly cannot bear to be the butt of one.

Regardless of how much blame you want to throw at Morrissey for getting himself into this predicament in the first place, this is simply a classic example of the strategies these right-wing parasites employ to position themselves as ideological allies to those who’ve disturbed the “woke hegemony” (a concept completely reductive, overblown and in this case, irrelevant).

Do you really think a hack like Paul Joseph Watson has the first clue as to what Morrissey truly represents?

Legit question - have you ever posted anything of note?

Well. This has gone well for him. Fiona and Anne Marie holding his coat, whilst he tells the world he isn’t prepared to fight.

A PR Master stroke! FFS!

I think that's probably the case.

But one sentence would be such an improvement.

I don't support For Britain, if I'd known their real agenda, I would never have done so.

Something like that.

Then he can go win Nancy Sinatra back.

It's been 7 hours and I'm still not drunk yet. This is going better (or worse...?) than expected.

"no label will sign an artist who might answer back", I took this as meaning there is no new album.
I don’t expect it will remain locked in a vault—it will become accessible some way.

Plenty of artists release material without being signed to a major record label. Obviously, that might be something that’s difficult for Morrissey to come to terms with, but need is the mother of invention.

There is absolutely no threat of Morrissey's new album falling by the wayside. What he means is that Columbia isn't banging down his door to offer him a million-dollar contract, which is not a novel issue for him.

Exactly, he could just put it on Spotify and other platforms. Isn't that where most people are listening now anyway? It would seem to grant him full independence without being beholden to a record company. Or maybe he just always wants the option of blaming a record company when things don't go the way he wanted?

I know one thing, he's too old skool and stubborn not to release it on disc.

Statement from AMW / For Britain re: Morrissey / Simpsons.

I believe we're approaching the 5th layer of hell...
FWD.

Denounce them now Morrissey, if you don't you are making yourself out to be everything you have been called, I think even did hard fans are going to be hard to keep a hold of if you don't. I love your music all the years of varying degrees, loved IANADOAC I have really high hopes for your new music but the audience of who will listen, buy it is going to dwindle because of this. Why do you keep making yourself a target?. Get rid of the yes men, this is really not alright, best wishes Annie Wilkes.
