Is BBC 6music the best radio station going?

I love BBC 6music.

In the last hour tonight I have heard Lloyd Cole, Robyn Hitchcock and, just there, "Boxers" with a plug for the Mozipedia book.

It's worth my licence fee alone - any other fans? Or is there something else good out there I'm missing?:)

I like it a lot, though it used to be better. Definitely the best station out there though. The daytime schedule isn't a patch on what it used to be, but most of what you get on there post-4pm and at weekends is good. The introducing show is brilliant, as are the shows hosted by Guy Garvey, Stuart Maconie, and Marc Riley.

I absolutely LOVE 6music but I don't like how it's DAB since I can't get it in my car and can only listen when I'm at home off the TV/internet :(

Re: Is 6music the best radio station going?

Agreed. It's head and shoulders above the other stations though I tend to only be able to catch Lamacq and Riley's shows.

Gideon Coe & Marc Riley for me, all you need is them.

If this has been mentioned elsewhere I am sorry I missed it....there has been rumours for a while but there are now reports (on the BBC website?!) that 6music is under review and may close. This is a travesty for music fans in the UK - what the hell will we listen to now?

God help us if they think we are going to go back to Radio 1....

It is the only radio station worth listening to. I t has a few downsides (namone and george lamb) but musically well pretty much perfect. If as rumoured it will be axed then just radio 4 will be our only saviour but musicaly will we all be agreeing that lady gaga represents what we all what we want to hear

Yep, I love Gideon's show who started as a GLR breakfast presenter with Fi Glover.

Also Jarvis' Sunday Service started a month ago, really hope BBC won't scrap 6 Music.

Signed. I tend to listen to R4, 5live and 6Music. Will they make R2 more eclectic if the inevitable happens? (When the BBC start touting ideas that is usually that!)

I watched a news bulletin with Nicky Wire being interviewed earlier and he made a very valid point that nothing has the power of radio in terms of breaking new bands. (Unless you include crap like the X-factor which I'm not, poor Cheryl by the way....)

BBC6 to close - its official:tears:

Make your feelings known here - if you pay a licence fee you should make your voice heard...

Gutted.

Me too, as usual quantity over quality...you actually have presenters on 6 music who love the the music and have the knowledge to go with it.
I'll be lost without it, I've heard so much good music on there..stuff that i managed to missed years ago and of course new bands. Mainly thanks to Marc Riley, Gideon Coe and Tom Robinson.
Up until 6 music i'd hardly ever heard The Smiths on daytime radio, ever.
I mean where else would you get Guy Garvey and Jarvis Cocker having their own shows?
Close Radio 1, now that's an abomination of a station.

just another example of the state of the country and the people in charge deciding what we can or cant have, suppose we must all just lie down and let simon cowell and cheryl coal beat us to death with brit awards statuets.

Less Simon Cowell, more David Cameron and Mr Murdoch. They have Mark Thompson running terrified and it won't stop there. The BBC will be dead within a decade and we'll all have to pay for Sky. Now isn't that MUCH better than the licence fee.

The Conservatives are already destroying the BBC without even being in power yet.

Actually makes me so angry.

If 6music goes then it'll be a very sad day.
It's by far the greatest radio station of today, in fact, ever.
