Mercury Music Prize Speculation

Nominations for mercury are out tomorrow - do you think YOR has a chance? And if so, would Moz tell them where to shove it?!

Last predictions ahead of the announcement has him at 66/1...

It ought not to win it, as realistically its not nearly his best.
He'd probably accept the award, its one of the more lauded ones currently.

There's more chance of Morrissey signing for Manchester City than YOR being nominated.....

Well, he was hardly singing it's praises at his birthday party.

Thank you for the reminder, Nats1977, though I doubt there will be any interesting nominees.
La Roux sauce will probably be in there somewhere.

i hope so but think there is more chance of JJ and Grim signed as the next strikers by Man city

Well I can't speak for Grim, but seeing as I play in goal, you are right.... I have no chance of being signed to play up front:cool::guitar:

critically, it's done better than the last two (got 79/100 on metacritic, YATQ and ROTT got around 74) but it's still unlikely to get nominated even tho albums with that score often do.
for artists that have been around a while, they need to have pretty much universal acclaim to win one of these things, as there isn't really the requisite buzz or hype or whatever you wanna call it...

I just can't imagine Morrissey at the Mercury Prize. It's one of those middle classed media affairs where everyone sits around on tables politely listening to each act while they quaff their champagne. I just think he'd stick out like an awkward sore thumb.

He didn't get a nomination for the last two albums, so I'd say unless there's a couple of diehard Mozzites on the judging panel, he almost certainly won't for this one, given that it's probably a much less talked about album than its predecessors. Nor do I think it really deserves it; there have been much better albums this year. Although if the likes of "Little Boobs" get a look in, it'll be a travesty.

Ha I'm so uncool, i have none of those.
I didn't mind Geraldine by Glasvegas and i think Florence is very sassy if that counts.
I'm surprised this thread hasn't been moved yet.

Florence & The Machine I would imagine are a shoe-in.

Are these albums? By bands? Not a list of critically acclaimed children's pop-up books?

I have Florence and the machine and Glasvegas. Would have to go for Glasvegas, although im surprised either were nominated.

Doubt Moz would acknowledge a nomination, nevermind accept the prize. Phony Mercury Music prize was how i remember him referring to it
