Mix Tape

oye terence

ampersand after ampersand
The other day, while cleaning out some boxes in my attic, I found some of my old mix tapes. This made me a bit nostalgic for the day of mixed tapes, and so I thought I would make "mix tape" post the songs and put it up for downloading.

And maybe others could be inspired to post mix themselves, just the list or if you are really inspired, an upload of the mix.

If I recall, cassette tapes were either 60 or 90 minutes, so I used 90 minutes, give or take.

I made this a couple of months ago for a girl who never listened to it. She was into some post-punk / new wave stuff but was mainly a novice, into the more mainstream, 80's-only end of that genre, but being ( I thought) earnestly interested I thought she might want to take it up a notch. So I tried to make a set of lesser known (by her) songs / bands as well as more obscure versions of songs she already knew. It's nothing profound, but it's a decent mix. (60 minute cassette template)

side a
1. MAGAZINE because you're frightened
2. JOHNNY THUNDERS all by myself
3. THE CURE 10:15 saturday night (bbc session)
4. THE REPLACEMENTS can't hardly wait (alternate version)
5. VELVET UNDERGROUND i'll be your mirror (live; lou reed on vocals)
6. DEPECHE MODE fly on the windscreen
7. BUZZCOCKS what do i get
8. THROWING MUSES hate my way

side b
9. WIRE outdoor miner (single version)
10. THE SOFT BOYS i wanna destroy you
11. XTC rocket from a bottle
12. THE JAM saturday's kids
13. 10, 000 MANIACS my mother the war
14. HUSKER DU hardly getting over it
15. R.E.M. sitting still (original version)
16. PIXIES wave of mutilation (bbc session)
17. THE SMITHS jeane

This is a great compilation!

Great Terence! Last idea on this didn't go too far, I seem to remember.
To Bike Tragedy, how unfortunate she didn't listen to it. Mix-tapes are personal reflections of the person who took the time to make them. Shame on her!
Seeker of Good Songs should be making his way on over for some new finds.
I'll try and post one soon.

I'm cheaing on this, it's not my mix and I came across it by accident.
It's on their website made pubic to share with anyone, but Deerhunter has made their latest mix. It's the first I've downloaded, but they have more mixes from older posts on there. I only had #1 and #3, but I like what I've heard from the rest.

It's a great song, very nostalgic-60's-tinged-style stuff that they like.
It was ironic I came across the site, apparently a mixtape site, when I was looking to see if there was an mpfree of Deerhunter's upcoming EP, which was news to me (stumbled upon it on 4AD's site reading about Camera Obscura!)

This made me a bit nostalgic for the day of mixed tapes...

Nostalgic indeed. I loved those mixed tapes of mine. They're still around here somewhere. And not to come off as some lothario, but I still have a mixed tape that an ex gave to me to profess her undying love to me. I haven't listened to the tape since way back when, but I just can't seem to throw it out. Surely, you must understand.
