Our song for today is this Morrissey/Whyte composition, released as a stand-alone single in Dec 1995 and reaching #42 on the UK chart.

What do we think of this one?

I really like this one. It seemed more important at the time and has kind of faded but it's a very nice song. Alain's vocals add to it. Classic. 7/10

great song, its the sort of song M was doing in his sleep in those days.not sure if the video has much to do with the song.good voice, great lyrics.
best line-with your jean belt wrapped around your arm.
8 jean belts/10 needles.

Love this song and used to play it to death. It’s classic Alain, sure, but there’s such heartrenching melancholy in the chord progression and Moz’s very transparent lyrical themes of drug abuse. It’s so simple, yet devastatingly executed and effective. The ending reminds me of “Pretty Girls Make Graves” with Alain’s lovely backing vocals.
Such an underrated song - completely ignored at the time, as I recall, as a single. Definitely deserves to be reevaluated in future.
9/10

Agree, it's such a lovely, quiet gem of a song isn't it?

Releasing it the week before Christmas was...odd? It charted three places below "Christmas in Blobbyland".

Can't add much else to what's been said already.
Beautiful, yet sad, song; simple but meaningful lyrics, wonderful vocals, everything fantastically delivered.
Superb.

Mildly uptempo jangly song with a couple really big hooks. I’m surprised he doesn’t play it more as it seems pretty universally enjoyed by fans

To me, this is melancholy guitar pop damn-near perfected. I never tire of this song. Prime 90's Moz.

The time of this being released is a bit hazy. I bought it on the Sunday after it was released and the chaps and gal behind the counter of the store were discussing England and Scotland had just been paired together for the following summers euro’s (the game would be played in the day the IRA bombed Manchester)
The memory ends there, but the song still sings. One of the best M has put out. 95 was a strange year in M world but equally; the one I’d most like to relive.
File under 10/10 :hammer: 👨‍⚖️

A nice song, but the drug reference meant that it was never likely to be a hit single. The fact that two record labels were releasing songs almost simultaneously didn't help obviously.

This is superior to pretty much all of Southpaw Grammar and one of the b-sides was also surprisingly strong.

In the poll on the Hoffman board this ranked 38th from 264 solo songs.

I can remember being completely heart broken upon discovering this song had failed to make the top 40.

Think I was in WHS at the time as I was one of those tight fisted Bastards who would clog the isles reading the NME without any intention of buying the 4king thing .

RE the song it’s a lovey little tune that rolls along with great tempo and considering the content matter doesn’t sound depressing at all.

Also it sits proudly among other great songs on Mozzers first hits cd .

Unfortunately, Drew went radio silent after a while and never replied regarding the 'mini film' that was meant to precede the video.

A very very good single.

Sunny I cry when I see
where it's taking you

I'm here - I won't move
I'm here - I won't move
I'm here I

will
not

move
.”

The truth lies buried deeply between Vauxhall & Southpaw (during his first real relationship). Perfect band, perfect production and Morrissey at his most admirable. A Lamento for Jake, his then bass player suspected once.
.

thats weird,he writes in the introduction I Cant Stop Thinking About Kirk Douglas and im sitting here watching The Heroes Of Telemark with you have guessed it Kirk Douglas.

Kids today with their streaming platforms, online porn and video gaming. Never will they know the thrill of finding a load of jazz mags on some disused railway line or in the woods....

Good song, wasn't it recorded before Southpaw though? I heard it was about Jake and his habits.

Always remember he released this and Boyracer in successive weeks on different labels (can't recall which way round) and neither really troubled the charts. Plus ca change

I think it was the same day (this & BR)
I picked both up on the Sunday at Our Price. God look after its beautiful soul. (Our Price)
