Morrissey Is the Lena Dunham of Music - The Daily Beast
The British singer came under fire for defending accused predators Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein, while Dunham defended her pal accused of rape. The two have plenty in common.
By Stereo Williams.

Excerpt:
"For a generation of music fans, Morrissey came to the fore as an anti-establishment figure alongside The Smiths. The band symbolized the kind of thoughtful outsider that had been disregarded in the days of Margaret Thatcher and economic strife, but Morrissey has always allowed hubris and egotism to run wild. And worse, he has a pattern of romanticizing the despicable. In the 1990s, he was constantly accused of racism based on lyrics, antics and statements.

“Bengali, Bengali / Oh, shelve your Western plans / And understand / Life is hard enough when you belong here,” Morrissey sang on 1988’s “Bengali in Platforms,” sparking accusations of racism and xenophobia. In 1992, he performed at Finsbury Park draped in the union flag, a symbol of the British extreme right, while performing “National Front Disco,” a song that suggested empathy for the skinheads of the National Front. Famously vegan, in 2010 Morrissey dismissed the Chinese as “a subspecies” for their treatment of animals.

There are fans who have defended Morrissey for decades as merely a satirist when his lyrics insinuate bigotry, his controversial statements tend to spark controversy only to subside as he’s lauded for his prowess as a songwriter and an icon of British music, and his musings on British identity are exclamations of national pride as opposed to simmering xenophobia. But Morrissey has spent years showing us exactly who he is. And in dismissing alleged victims of rape and molestation, he’s yet another individual with a platform who has decided that power grants a certain kind of immunity; that scrutiny should be aimed at victims, as opposed to those with the power to abuse.

And sadly, he’s not alone."

Years and years and years of wonderful lyrics and still people want to drag him down. Who else out there is worth tuppence really. 'And if you don't believe me now, will you ever???' Too eager to pull down a beautiful statue and put a toenail in its place.

The (negligible) difference is that Lena Dunham apologizes each time she's called out on her shit.

If 'scrutiny' should be 'aimed' anywhere, it should then be aimed at his answers to the questions in that interview in whole, then his answers can be seen as they are which is contradictory, to say the least.

And I don't agree with all that he's saying, THOUGH in context, if the reader or critic were to read and take in the interview in whole, then I feel they would take a sane and balanced view of what he is saying. If taken in context and not just zeroing in on particular lines, then there would be no need to attack, but there would be and should be A QUESTIONING OF WHAT he said as a whole, because when read in whole there seems to be a contradiction in what he saying. Then maybe we can start to come to terms with what he's saying or that he is just misinformed (if this is the case) when it comes to the accusations against Spacey.

In a nutshell, there should be a questioning of what he said in the whole interview on this subject rather than just attacking him, though that's not click bait worthy enough, which is what all this attacking mostly comes down to.

now this (below) Guess everyone's confusion & anger.... in vain.

He says he “abhors” all rape and forced sexual activity. What are people complaining about?!?! They are taking him out of context and then acting like he said it is okay for Kevin Spacey to rape little boys.

IMHO what he said is that he abhors rape, and he also takes issue with people who sleep with people to get ahead in their career and when that doesnt work out, they come out saying they were sexually assaulted.

Bingo. The readers were too unsophisticated to understand that or too jealous anyway.

Readers also seemed to overlook that the interviewer, Juliane Liebert, tried to get him to make an illegal statement about El Presidente. But instead he said, "I would like to speak."

All the extra space you take to state your non-opinion (you never really state anything, you only try to chip away at the basis of logic) is symbolic of the empty space in your reasoning.
It doesn't matter that he said that he is against rape in general when he supports a rapist specifically.

you think ?

Losing the will... Isn't it blaringly obvious that being ensconced in feminist and gay literature, writing the likes of 'Barbarism begins at home', 'Headmaster ritual' and 'Yes, I'm blind', he would not support such oppression and violence. It's ridiculous.

Why did you post this garbage from DailyBeast here, without any commentary? Dailybeast peace is garbage, everything Morrissey said about aspiring actors, aspiring singers is true, they all get their cloths off. They are more than willing to blow dusty old executives, who can make their career, hell, straight 'actors' blow a studio head, or his secretary for slight shot at tiniest role. It's the failed ones who complain, always years later, decades later, because they are failures, and this publicity is their only shot at limelight, even if for 5 seconds.
'OMG Kevin Spacey made a pass at me, maybe even touched me!!'

Basially anyone with name recognisition can't make a pass at anyone, its now considered assault.

Morrissey said absolutely nothing wrong, yet you post this article here. Why? My guess, you're clueless. World is full of crushing dummies.
