Morrissey: The Great Unfiltered Artist? - Tremr

Excerpt:

"Could it be that this is what we need, in society? That Morrissey's honesty is the very thing that calls fans to remain loyal and steadfast in full defence of their favourite artist. In a society driven by the politically-correct, in a world obsessed with filters (both from online photographs to public opinion) we are so thirsty for an honest word, even if at times those words are not ones we agree with or sit comfortably with."

Jesus, not this shallow rebel nonsense again.

Flippant, uninformed personal opinions that push conspiracies, and already debunked narratives are not at all needed, nor do they effectively improve the discourse in any significant way. It's not changing minds, and it's not giving anyone information that is of much substance. It simply muddies the waters, and allows for extremism to flourish.

The ideas that Morrissey is spreading were ideas concocted by someone else with an agenda. They weren't born out of Morrissey's own unique sense of logic. There's nothing brave about it. They're simply the mutterings of an out of touch old man who appears to believe anything that validates his natural bias.

In case the author hasn't noticed, Morrissey's comments have only entrenched those who have opinions on the topic. They are not a balanced assessment of the topic. They are half-baked personal diatribes of which we need less, not more.

Proper discourse means having to justify your opinions; not yammering in a on-sided conversation that is meant, in part, to draw attention to your product.

Finally, there's a difference between possessing information, and possessing good judgement.

We needed better judgment, and Morrissey has a legacy of not only having bad judgment, but cultivating it.

You have voted Skinny's predictable post into oblivion but then you quote it so much that it becomes the majority of the thread. #DoingItWrong

Oh look. A right-wing website that misspelled RACISM as HONESTY.

What a load of Breitbart-lite bollocks.

Skinny is a greasy-haired twat.

Seriously why on earth do half you people still continue to visit this site? You’re like drug addicts who just can’t give it up. It really undermines everything you have to say about the man when in the end, no matter how much you shit on him, you keep coming back. The strongest message you could possibly give it just leaving.

We can’t all be weak minded brainwashed and impotent to reality. Now go off and find some ethnic friends and stop making a fool of yourself lolololo. Btw, on that quiz show vid you looked pale and overweight, hope things have improved.
Yes, Auntie fatty did not look good on there! Was very rotund and old looking. That was years ago as well, so must be a right mess now! Wasn’t great on his Smiths knowledge either.

How is it a right-wing website? Seems to be a mix of opinions on there to me. Their 'staff pick', for example:

"Trump & Putin By The Book: Five Must-Reads About Two Most Awful People. Herewith are detail-rich comprehensive overviews of the ongoing Russia scandal and the two men who are methodically destroying the nations they purport to lead."

Whatever your point of view, it's a poor article that just repeats itself over and over without attempting to qualify a single point. The short version:
  1. Morrissey has always been outspoken
  2. Morrissey says today's singers have nothing to say
  3. But Morrissey speaks his mind. Is this why he's so important?
  4. A university professor (who clearly has far too much time on his hands) says Moz is the greatest lyricist ever and equal to Oscar Wilde and Philip Larkin
  5. Morrissey expresses a whole range of opinions on everyday life
  6. Society needs people like Morrissey to challenge us with his outspoken opinions
  7. This is what great art is, and why Morrissey is so great
  8. It doesn't matter if you agree with him or not
  9. Without Morrissey and his outspoken opinions, society would be poorer
  10. Music would be very dull without Morrissey speaking his mind
  11. He is very important

Dear God, do people get paid for this? Not one single quote from his recent outbursts (and there are plenty to choose from) are held up and examined. It might have been an interesting point of view if it was argued properly, but this is just warm wet drivel.

"The music world will be a very dull place if it continues down its current path which celebrates censorship and faux social media outrage, at the expense of freedom of expression. We need the Morrissey's of the world. We can never as a species explore or even find our own opinion if we are not happy to listen to the voices of others. And if that happens to be packaged in art and music that the public grow to love, then all the better. "

Who could not agree on that?

No repeats on your 'list".
Repeating something over and over again suggests something has been said 'twice'.
In other words, the article is fine your post needs quite a bit of work as its poorly written and laid out. Dont buy
into Rifkes brownnosing that you are the new Proust.

Who indeed. It's such a bland statement that there's nothing to disagree with. Context is everything though, and this writer has managed to sidestep all of it. I'm dead against censorship but when 'the voices of others' are seen as bigoted, ignorant and bizarre they are not automatically something to celebrate.

There is 'nothing to disagree with' but right away want to censor the writer?
Dont let Rifke trick you into thinking you are the new Jimmy Breslin.

How about the eyeballs spinning like a slot machine? Very disturbing sight, that quiz show.:whip:

Obviously, yes. The problem however is that these days, his statements increasingly seem not so much provocative as just plain stupid. Even if you didn't agree with him, you could respect the sentiment and commitment involved in "Panic" or "Margaret on the Guillotine" or "Meat is Murder". But he did not at that time praise nauseating extremists, or belittle massacres, or ridicule himself by insisting there's no difference between Britain and the worst dictatorships in the world because of the royal family. He was not someone who actively fanned the flames of the most hideous trends emerging. His grasp of the world such as it exists beyond his own idiosyncratic take on it has perhaps never been impressive, but you respected it as part of his integrity, crucially because you accepted that he was, on the whole, on the side of good things in this world. Today, he is not. Much of what he purports to stand for today, I have no respect for, on any level. It's just sad. And increasingly uninteresting.
