New album 'Low in High-School' (Nov. 17, 2017) on Etienne Records / BMG; Hollywood Bowl (Nov. 10)

Morrissey announces new album Low in High-School - Manchester Evening News
by Simon Binns.

Morrissey is set to release his first new album since 2014.

Low in High-School will be released on November 17 on CD, coloured vinyl and limited edition cassette, as well as digital formats.

It will be the former Smiths' frontman's first album for BMG, which is also partnering with Morrissey on the launch of his new label, Etienne Records.

Low in High-School was recorded at La Fabrique Studios in France and in Rome at Ennio Morricone’s Forum Studios. The record is produced by Joe Chiccarelli, who has worked with Frank Zappa, The Strokes, Beck and The White Stripes.

Low in High-School captures 'the zeitgeist of an ever-changing world.'

Korda Marshall (EVP of BMG) said of the signing: “There are not many artists around today that can compare to Morrissey. He is an extraordinary talent. He is prodigious, literate, witty, elegant and above all, courageous. His lyrics, humour and melodies have influenced many generations. The music on this new landmark record will speak for itself and we are delighted to welcome him to BMG.”

There are likely to be tour dates to promote the record - but for now, there is only one live show booked, at the Hollywood Bowl in LA on November 10.

As a solo artist, all ten of his albums have reached the Top 10 on the UK charts, including three entries at number one.

Following his debut solo album Viva Hate back in 1988, he has since released a number of critically acclaimed follow-ups including Kill Uncle and Your Arsenal, and hugely successful comeback album You Are the Quarry after a five year hiatus in 2004.

Not quite a surprise 'drop' was it?
Perhaps some decent marketing in the build up - we can but hope.
Good news for a change!

So there it is, the new album announcement, and instead of being happy and looking forward to it, there are far more Troll-posts on here then anything else.
Brummie and Benny, when you are hating Morrissey so much, why don't you just leave this website?! So-low indeed!

erm....Viva Hate?

It's nothing personal, just a way to deal with boredom & again: no more important than playing Solitaire, watching a bit of porn to pass the time. I think I'll return to radio silence soon until the first car-crash interview/single release. It's a LONG time till November so having trashed the title there's not much else to go for at the moment. Trust me, if this new era isn't just another pint of piss I'll be the first to congratulate our favourite humasexual tax exile.

Only reason he got signed is in case there's a reunion of The Smiths, let's see how many copies he sells of High-Skool Reunion

Interesting point. Lets say there is. There's both a Marr and a Morrissey album coming out around the time of The Smiths QID reissue, the timing of which is no coincidence. But everyone would win - Moz gets his records, so does Marr, they sell a load of Smiths' stuff, and everyone's happy.

This would make a fun sleeve...very Bowie Next Day, no?

MOD EDIT - spoiler tag added for NSFW content

Would love to see the sales figures for all these reisssues and how much profit the record companies actually make. I know there are no recording costs, but I still wonder if it's all worth it. Someone said early the singles have done well to date - which ones? and how many did they actually sell?

Here's hoping we get physically released singles with B sides that have sleeves with art work.

Hopefully a deluxe edition that will have the extra songs and not songs only available on vinyl.

They probably make some money but the attention they generate also keeps the songs popular and going on other platforms. The record companies probably make more money off of digital platforms

It's an anagram of "inch-high solo owl". I guess he felt it would only be a true anagram if he stuck the hyphen in somewhere.

the world is likely to be still scrutinising every pixel about Taylor Swift's release of 'Reputation' a week prior. I certainly will be as she's genuinely Famous and a Cultural Figure in a way Morrissey never was and never can be.

She's so "edgy" and "relevant". From the Guardian's two star review of her current single...

"The chorus borrows its cadence from Right Said Fred’s 1992 body-shaker I’m Too Sexy..."

Enough Said.

So you admit you think Moz is a fab singer and do "love" his music when it meets your approval but I'm curious. What was your breaking point when Moz the man pissed you off so much? There's no way you've always felt this way. I reckon you would've defended the chap 20 years ago, no? I find the whole Moz persona amusing. I posit his music wouldn't be what it is without his idiosyncrasies.

No chance but there will almost certainly be an extra batch of songs to accompany the album. They'll probably get attached to a bonus/deluxe edition as happened with WP (and many other acts these days).

Taylor Swift is releasing 'Reputation' a week before 'Low In High Skool'. The media will be totally fixated on her new album. Other than grabbing her by the hair in the school canteen and wrestling Taylor to the floor, I doubt there's anything Morrissey can do to get any publicity beyond the Fan Cult on this site. It will be amusing to see what he does to try and get some face-time for his Dad Rock whilst the rest of the world is quite correctly focused on the vibrant contemporary music star Taylor Swift.

I'm really excited about Taylor's new music. The first single *drops* tomorrow. Loving those teaser GGI snakes too...hope she dishes a diss to Kanye & Kim. Wonder if there's any diss tracks on Morrissey's new record or it it's about how a teacher gave him a funny look 45 years ago and ruined his life....Sad.

Taylor Swift samples Right Said Fred's I'm Too Sexy on her new album. You heard it here first, M-Solo-ites! Mozzy should have sampled Right Said Fred's I'm Too Sexy FIRST!! Dammit. That woulda been the ticket!!

But how 'bout that, huh! I think Swifty's track gonna be HOT, Shazzy!!!
