It was beautifully written at tumes. The lead characters were often voilent, drug addicts, prostitutes, murders and thieves. They were all very sympathetic, relatable and lovable. Young and old rich and poor all mixed and represented.
The series dealt with sexuality incidentely. A character could be a lesbian without it being overly significant to her storyline. In that respect it was way ahead of its time.
It could be frighten and touching and funny from moment to moment. I think Morrissey would enjoy it if he tried.
