Morrissey Central & SER YT: “Once Upon A Woman’s Body” (October 30, 2021)

Musically, this is very evocative of some of my favorite 1980s Francoise Hardy. The song is stunning, and also bleak. But it envelopes me and draws me into its sombre fold immediately, and keeps me there

He's been writing variations of this song (lyric-wise) since at least 'Pretty Girls Make Graves', so it shouldn't really come as a surprise to anyone.

Once upon a woman’s body, you went soft too soon.../
I'm not the man you think I am, And sorrow's native son, he will not rise for anyone... etc

I'm guessing both lyrics stem from the same real-life incident, which was obviously somewhat traumatic and character-defining.

Regarding the vocal melody delivery and vibe, the two songs that first came to mind are This Is not Your Country and Home is a Question Mark, there may be others.
Yes, the beginning definitely bears a similarity to This Is Not Your Country.
Towards the chorus, it reminds me more of All The Lazy Dykes.
Compared to Country and Dykes, this one seems to have more dynami.
With better production and the addition of some light electronic touches and sound effects (as on his cover of When You Close Your Eyes), this could have been really wonderful.

A decent tune from Jesse and I prefer this to yesterday's demo.

It's still clearly unfinished, but it had quite a bit of potential and the lyrics are moderately interesting.

Sam deservedly gets criticism sometimes, but the free gift songs and videos that he has been responsible for override the negatives.

Yes, if you read the lyrics, the female voices are in quotes. On first reading it sounded like it was one person, but that made it a bit Oedipal.
Regards,
FWD.
That's funny cos I always just assumed it was two different women, one in a sexual context and one in a mother context. Great when lyrics can lead to all this thought and opinions and back and forth from the fans.

What would be even better would be footage of Moz meeting Alain in advance of the Vegas residency, footage of Moz and band preparing for recording a new song (from Bonfire), and that kind of stuff.

I really like lyrics!!! But a lot, the music not so much, the previous theme has better music, and this better lyrics but they sound dirty, and the voice or not to speak as usual!!!. i very well. I immediately think:
If with the woman it softensIf with a woman you can not continue....So that person doesn't like women.....Or maybe it's a problem of impotence!! Ja ja is a posibility And he could be needing sildenafil,(viagra) To whom Moz will refer with this lyric in this song,? Mmmmmmm Tutti. !!!! Gracias Mozuliss mas more please, please please!!!

Thanks again for an unreleased track, again a ballad...thank you Morrissey-solo.com

Really sounds like an early idea for "Home is a ?", what doesn't make sense, cause Mando Lopez has written the music for it. Hope Sam is not mixing up the names on the lost reels. Anyway, fans are really thankful but a little more information about the recording dates would be welcome.

Pretty Girls Make Graves, and also the old man's monologue in List of The Lost and others I'm probably forgetting mention being laughed at or rejected by a woman during a sexual encounter; I guess it's probably based on some traumatic event that he keeps revisiting throughout various songs, and briefly mentioned in interviews (I believe it was in Les Inrockuptibles September 1995 when he said (paraphrasing) "Women are nightmares, physically and mentally"). Maybe that trauma is why he seems to prefer men.

It's a translation:

Q: Have you ever met the girl of your dreams, the one to whom one of the songs from "Southpaw Grammar" is dedicated?

M: No, I've rather met the girls of my nightmares. To me, most girls are nightmares.

Q: Physically?

M: Yes, physically and mentally. There again, I'm not very interested... even as a child, I found it much easier to fall in love with a person in a photo because we never meet the people who pose in magazines.

Q: You're taken for an aesthete. Are you never attracted by plastic beauty? Women's physiques?

M: I've had a quite late development on this level. Now if I see a beautiful woman I can be attracted like any man. But I find it very embarrassing. It's the same whether it's an attraction to a man or a woman. Nothing seems to go well with me. The concept of attraction doesn't work. Human relations don't work... If I see someone I find attractive, then I flee in the other direction.

I am shocked. He has always struck me as a total pussy hound.

I'm aware (and thank you for pasting the translation), I looked it up right after posting. Paraphrasing was quicker since the statement is broke up over two questions (and translated from French) and I didn't want to paste it in the middle of the paragraph.

I just happened to have it open on one of my Google tabs!

Not content with ruining the reputation of Photoshop, Sam has installed Audacity too!

I can see why it was left off, same as the one from yesterday, the lyrics are completely disconnected from the music
