A cracking b-side, some great chord changes take it out of the ordinary, lovely harmonised vocals from Chrissie Hynde, and a dash of harmonica make this a cut above. Here's the lyrics, as I hear them...

Shame is the name (x4)

Hey boy - are you happy to be
A dim-ass teen on the spree?
You get drunk all day
And you're sick all night
Is this the sum of your life?

What's your name, what's your name?
What's your dreams, your goals, your ambitions and aims?

He laughed and said...

"Shame is the name"
He said "Shame is the name"
Shame is the name
He said "Shame is the name"

Hey girl - are you happy to be
A dim-ass teen on the spree?
You get drunk all day
And you're sick all night
Is this all you was born for?

What's your name, what's your name?
What's your dreams, your goals, your ambitions and aims?

She laughed and said...

"Shame is the name"
She said "Shame is the name"
Shame is the name
Shame is the name

Politician - can you listen
To yourself for just once in your life?
Because there's something you said
To mean soldiers are dead
Because the money you save
Seniors are in their grave

Shame is the name (x4)

Shame makes the world go around (x4)

Thats what I am hearing lyric wise as well Peter. Liking the Chrissy Hynde vocal this time as her appearance on My Love Life was underwhelming(through no fault of her own) at least you can hear her on this song:)

Thanks for the lyrics, Skinny. At first impression, the first two verses are like short-hand, updated versions of The Ordinary Boys.

Cheers,
Jamie

Its a good strong track - Ms. Hynde is not hugely noticeable; wouldnt be out of place on the album; with all these good bsides since YATQ (and even before the Maladjusted bsides were great) a new compilation ala Bond Drag; Hatful; World Wont would surely be a very strong album in its own right

Very good idea. A best-of, like Bona Drag, or the Japanese Rare Tracks.

I'd include...Teenage Dad, My Life Is A..., The Public Image, Ganglord, Children In Pieces, Shame Is The Name. And all the rest.:)

Has this been released already? Lyrics dont seem too bad ... wouldn't surprise me that Hynde isn't too noticable on the track, the people who do backing vocals don't seem to ever feature too prominently. Hopefully someone will upload this soon for us poor souls down under and other places where Morrissey singles are not sold.

The sample at the beginning of the song is taken from François Truffaut's The 400 blows. In this film, there is a character named Morrisset (a common name in France).

I don't like the ending Shame makes the world go round...
Otherwise it's great, I agree Karin, much better than a lot of the album.:thumb:

Ignore that request. I'd almost forgotten that we go and buy the tracks from the shops.

...It's out tomorrow isn't it?

Yes, we can get a copy from shops in about 9 hours time.

I really hope postman will deliver the bundle from recordstore.com later today.
