Well I think the older British audience was always different from the American one which of course got bigger once he was into his solo career. His lyrics though even in the smiths days were not always about being gentle and kind. He did somewhat move away from from his lonely vulnerable aspect but mostly it just seemed to me a natural phenomenon as he grew up and became a successful adult. I'm not sure all of his fans followed suit. As to intelligence it doesn't seem to me an intelligent thing to judge people and various newer fans intelligence in the way you seem to have from visual observation on aggressive appearance. It also doesn't seem very gentle and kind

The audience reflects Morrissey. That's why the audiences are made up of overweight thickos these days.

This poor Danny guy probably saw the beginning of this thread and thought 'sweet, let's see what planet Moz has to say about my pic being used as tour merchandise.'

And then he reads, and is left sullen that the topic went in a totally unrelated path and has nothing to do with him or his pic.

Needless to say, I enjoyed where the thread went, as compared to whatever the heck it was supposed to be about.

Be safe all,

'Morrissey once represented' to quote you.

Has M changed or has his fans changed? both and for the better.

M met the world and the world met him, open arms on both sides.

M changed to a money grubbing greedy bastard, went from wearing 2nd hand store clothes to Gucci and Prada now. Everything Morrissey was against when he was younger he has now become. As for fans yeah they have changed to whiny little minion piss ants like yourself who sit and wait idly by to do whatever Master Morrissey wants them to do.

He became Whiny and Petty and vindictive sang as if he was the victim of a crime.

1. Sorry to burst your bubble but Moz wore designer clothes even during the Smiths

2. When did he ever state that he is against Gucci and Prada?

3. I would find it rather pathetic and inauthentic to wear cheap clothes if you have a certain amount of money

4. Within his rich world Moz rather holds back in comparison to other stars regarding to clothes. For example, he constantly wears the same clothes over and over again. Most of the time when he is spotted somewhere, I know the outfit. There are stars out there who would rather shoot themselves than risk to be seen in the same pants

WHAT?

Yet again, as we have seen over and over and over again with you, you will push credulity to its absolute limits in your defend-at-all-costs position. Utterly ridiculous person and utterly ridiculous specious reasoning.

Yeah sure, whatever :lbf: Funny how David Bowie or George Michael or even Johnny Marr can wear designer clothes without anyone here ever criticizing it.

I didn't mean it in a harmful way. I can only state what I see and what I have experienced. However, I do recall Morrissey himself judging his fans intelligence in a 2006 interview and judging it on countries intelligence. That is not very 'gentle and kind' now is it? I also think you are missing the bigger picture of the argument.

The only problem is if anyone chooses to slavishly follow Morrissey's opinions and beliefs. They are so full of contradiction, hypocrisy and stupidity that only a moron would soak them up unquestioning. There are morons who do but there always have been. Nowadays we just hear them more because of social media.

Not all newer fans are dumb, not all older fans are intelligent and sensitive. And having tattoos doesn't make anyone less smart, it's just a form of expression. Assuming newer fans are ''posers'' because they dont look like 80s sad teenagers doesn't make any sense.
His lyrics are timeless and I'm happy it exists and still reach the ones who needs them. It shouldn't matter what age, gender, or color his fans are. Just apreciate so many different people like him, and be proud he's still here doing his thing.

Blykey blood hell. I reckon Uncle Steve didn't pay shit to this guy. The guy is just happy he used his tattoo image for his shirt for all you Brits to buy and Uncle Steve to make money off you. Uncle Steve was not factory working class. crykey, he went to the Grand Canyon and Disneyland before me.

Nancy is not going to have her man walking around LA in Levis 501's for $19.99 from Target that all you people outside the USA save a year to buy just one pair and some Kickball shirt that has CHEVROLET on the front. This is why he wears Louis Vuitton, Prado, Gucci, etc.

So, you missed everything since 1992? That makes sense. While Los Angeles has been "home" for stints, it's never been "his" home. He's tried Rome, Dublin, Chelsea, Paris, Rome again...back to the U.S. (for which he has great disdain, of course...) He simply loves the weather and access to reliable, immediate, expensive healthcare... Just like the NHS...

I know, I was just using that as an example of a typical characteristic. I know that many variations of people are a fan of his music for various reasons which is absolutely fine but it is just the 'on the surface' image now of his audience that I don't understand, that is all. From various experiences with other people I have seen their interest in Morrissey and The Smiths only to fulfill an image which does frustrate me slightly.

Does anybody else feel as though the Morrissey audience has changed quite a lot from the Smiths days? It is just an observation but judging by the photo and the cover of the book and his American audience it looks as if an image of machismo/aggression has been introduced- a fashionable hipster with black rimmed glasses, tattoos, very tapered quiff and tight clothes. Where as previously in England in the early days of the Smiths and Morrissey there was no fashion attached to the music- indie wasn't a fashion at the time, so attracted the sensitive, lonely, intelligent and shy youth which also reflected Morrissey and the music. The audience now seem to have gone against all that Morrissey once represented and intended so it seems that the audience doesn't reflect Morrissey or the music. Whether it's because Morrissey has changed an awful lot so attracts now a different kind of person I don't know. Or maybe it's because there has been a great shift from having a British audience to an American audience so cultural relativity plays a big part? Now it seems he attracts some American gangsters with many tattoos and piercings, macho image etc I'm not too sure being from England but it just seems that something has changed and the intelligent, philosophical pacifistic audience that were once authentically identifiable as a Smiths/Morrissey fan, for instance the androgynous girl in the 'Everyday is Like Sunday' video or the 80s Morrissey clones in the 'Stop Me...' video has diminished a great deal- even Morrissey said so himself in an interview that the audience were initially very thoughtful, sensitive and profoundly thinking people who were modest and shy. From what I see now it appears to be otherwise which is quite sad and that Morrissey can be used as a fashion/ trend/ image due to commercialisation of 'indie' where as it is much deeper and more powerful than that. It's just my own opinion/ observation so don't throttle me! I'm just interested to know what others think about Morrissey's audience/ what was his audience?
Being a British fan I hear where your coming from but I think its time and in time changes come. Thanks for your post, its great to hear.

Ouch. Wrong move.

In similitude to American baseball, there are 'unwritten rules' that most play by, because, well, they are 'unwritten rules'.

In my humble opinion, one of the 'unwritten rules' of this site is that if you are going to go toe-to-toe with UnkleSkinny, it would be wise to have your facts in line and ready to have at your quick dispose.

Like him or not (because this is beside the point), if you don't have them, he will crush you.

Be well,

I reckon mat you did not need to add "American" before Baseball. Speaking of Baseball I reckon if Uncle Steve renewed his Dodger season ticket seats for this season next to David Beck Ham and Snoopy Dog.

Baseball is very big in Japan. I don't know if their baseball culture includes 'unwritten rules', hence, I added 'American' because I didn't want to speak on something I didn't know about.

Normally I don't banter back and forth with posts that aren't worth my time (yours), but I will defend myself this once.

Sometimes your posts are amusing, but most of the time you ramble. Additionally, I reckon you don't need to capitalize the word baseball. It's a noun. Not a proper noun.

Poor old Danny boy
Has come a glory hunting
Cause Steve has ripped his back off
For his tatty inked skin bunting

I'm just passing through here
On my way to read the other boards
And I pray they won't be as boring
Please God, they won't be as boring
