tell us about the last Film you saw

enjoyed watching "fedora" by billy wilder from 1977, and i think i like his technicolor films even better than the b/w ones.

started off very nicely, location in corfu, experienced storytelling (that's somehow missing nowadays), masterful camera work and professional acting. story is a new version of the old topic from "sunset boulevard", the aging, mysterious and still glamourous hollywood star unable to deal with reality.
lots of hollywood stars of wilder's generation got together for a tryst and playing themselves, like michael york and henry fonda. this was somehow a little bit too "old school" for my taste.
unfortunately, the film peters out into some sort of agatha christie mystery story at the end with a denouement and resolution which are far far far too long, but i guess, there had to be found a slot for all the "old friends" somehow. 30 mins less wouldve been better.

gilda and cover girl both with rita Hayworth. I still have to watch 'youll never get rich' and 'you were never lovelier', also with rita Hayworth. im on a rita Hayworth kick. to me, she has always been the epitome of old Hollywood, moreso than better davis or joan Crawford. all the allure and glamour and mystique and tragedy of old Hollywood is embodied in her person.

I just found a wonderful French streaming site https://www.lacinetek.com which is in English as well.

It's fascinating to read the lists of many directors' favourite/reccommendations.

Very impressed that my favourite film Les Aventuriers is also available to watch (but only France, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland and Germany at the moment).
They're planning to extend the service to other regions in future.

probably the worst film i've seen for ages. it wants too much and achieves nothing.

sorry to see that this young director, richard kelly, couldnt offer a convincing follow-up to his first hit "donnie darko".
the acting is all highly exaggerated to hide the fact that these actors actually cannot act.

Could you finish it? I couldn't.

i am still very disturbed by the film "the piano teacher" that @rifke recommended to me several times...

the trailer won't prepare you for all the sado-maso bourgeois perversion depicted in gruesome detail. what did she do to her genitals in the bathroom, ffs?

i was surprised to see that the film is actually based on a novel by elfriede jelinek, and this kind of explains the film's ability to break with many social taboos all of them related to female sexuality, and whenever women change the patriarchal rules of "that game", they end up being (diagonosed as) sick.
on the other hand, the story is also about how to deal with and liberate oneself from the high expectations and criticism which seem to be particularly harsh in educated bourgeois musical circles. i once knew someone who participated in master classes and the selection process for conductors, and haneke's presentation of this social milieu and its participants comes very close. if i had to spend an hour in such circles, i'd be dead by the end of it, no doubt about that. nevertheless, we admire their very refined musical skills.

best scene was the last one, when the protagonist, huppert, leaves the awaiting concert hall behind after having stabbed her chest, to join the rush hour noise on the street.

i agree that that was the best scene! most disturbing was when she got on top of her mother in bed. X(
I love the calm with which she played the character (with which she seems to play all her roles), walking through the pornography store with her characteristic deadpan expression not betraying any sense of discomfort or 'what am I doing in here?".
glad to hear your thoughts on it!

on the waterfront. i decided to watch it because i thought "well, its one of those ones I should watch" not prepared to like it anywhere near as much as I did. holy shit, what an insanely good movie. now im faced with the difficult task of deciding where it belongs on my top ten list. also, why/how is marlon brando sooooooooooooo sexy?!?

la belle noiseuse.

a 4hr long movie about the creative process. im amazed it was that long considering not much really happened. you watch michel piccoli as the painter sketching a lot and emmanuele beart as his model being arranged in unnatural poses a lot. I didn't mind the endless sketching. so much abot why i like movies is for the noises. I love the noises of footsteps on pavement, of breakfast dishes clanking on trays, of newspapers rustling, and I loved the noise his pen made as it made it's etches on the paper. I love watching the methodical ways people do things too. and im ALWAYS up for watching jane Birkin flit around on screen with her dancers body, all sinewy wispy horselike grace. she EASILY outshone Emmanuele beart with her tiresome wide eyed indignance.

Bailey and Darla embark upon a misguided and mutually deceitful form of therapy, one in which they must drive across the country re-enacting Darla’s colorful history as a sex addict. As their true motivations for the road trip come to light, the unlikely pair force one another to confront their issues, discovering that there might actually be more to love than just sex

This here's one of them landmarks in the history of pictures.
Seems like the original score was lost, but The Cinematic Orchestra
went ahead and made a heck of a new score for it.
Glad I finally got a chance to see this thing.

Radio Days, a Woody Allen film from 1987. Not bad.

A lot of snowflakes won't watch WA films these days because of the bullshit allegations made against him by Mia Farrow. Even though he's innocent.

Radio Days, not bad? It was terrific IMO. Reminded me of my mothers crazy family when I first saw it. All good films and books need a snowflake warning/alert before consumption in these bland times.
