In 2007, and early 2008, we put up polls for all 234 then released Morrissey and The Smiths-songs. More than 40,000 votes were cast and this resulted in The Morrissey/Smiths Top 100, or indeed, The Morrissey/The Smiths Top 234. In 2009/2010 we updated this chart with the 25 new songs that were released in 2008-2010. The final results of 2010, the 'Top 259', can be viewed here. Now, 4 years on, many people have asked me to continue with the polls as since the last one 25 new Morrissey-songs have been released.
So we'll start with the songs that were released in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and we'll end with the 18 songs from World Peace Is None of Your Business.

So here it goes. Let's hope for as big a turn-out as in 2007 and 2010 and, once again, vote with your heart, not with your mind.

Song 284: Art-hounds (Morrissey/Boz Boorer)

Art-hounds look like nothing
so art-hounds write something
and those that do
are judged by those who tried
and found they couldn't do
Art-hounds see the Greek ideal
and gaze on what they'll never feel
oh, the pitiless revenge
of those without friends
the pitiless, the pitiless revenge

Art-hounds know what's around
because they've seen it
somewhere written down
and everything they've seen
on the moving screen
helps them fill up the page

In European museums
will I see you?
will I see you?
will I see you?
will I see you?
in European museums
will I see you?

My life is opera
my life is opera
my life is opera
my life is opera

Art-hounds in a restaurant
they bring along
their loving aunt
but when they can't find a table
for their fat aunt Mabel
they stamp their feet and cry

Art-hounds in a restaurant
they bring along
their loving aunt
but when they can't find a table
for their fat aunt Mabel
they stamp their feet and cry

In European hushed museums
will I see you?
will I see you?
will I see you?
will I see you?
in European hushed museums
will I see you?

My life is opera
my life is opera
my life is opera
my life is

Art-hounds very funny
very witty but very lonely
and below the belt
is shriveled and small
it functions only as a word

Art-hounds very funny
very witty but very lonely
and below the belt
is shriveled and small
it knows a thousand woes

In European hushed museums
will I see you?
will I see you?
will I see you?
will I see you?
in European hushed museums
will I see you?

If you cannot stand this fake world
if you cannot stand this fake world
take my hand
if you cannot stand this fake world
if you cannot stand this fake world
if you cannot stand this fake world
take my hand
if you cannot stand this fake world

I take 16 pills
to send me to sleep
and 16 pills
to shake me awake
what does it mean?
what does it mean?
what does it mean?
what does it mean?
what does it mean?
what does it mean?
what does it mean?

Excellent track, this along with Drag The River should have been on the album and perhaps Earth Is The Loneliest Planet taken off.

I do fully agree. Should have been on the proper album.

A 9 from me.

I love this. It has so much energy, and there's a raw urgency to Moz's vocals - and such a great falsetto! The last minute or so is incredible. Most exciting song he's put out for years.

9. "My life is opera". Excellent.

10.

Why it was only played live once - BEFORE THE ALBUM CAME OUT! - and never again since is beyond me...

10, unquestionably. Really one of the greatest things he's done.

I don't know how exactly it would have fit contextually on the album proper and I understand its exclusion, but I do think it's a shame it was relegated to a bonus track all the same. I hope it finds its way back into the live repertoire at some point!

The falsetto alone makes this song a 10. Why hasn't he played it on this tour?!

9/10, but only because I prefer the more aggressive sound/slightly different lyrics of the live version. Maybe on the re-issue Moz will realise his mistake, and juggle this back onto the tracklisting?

im gonna have to go away from the group on this one and go six. it feels trite to me like a whole bunch of workup for no substance. drama for dramas sake at a nice tempo. i do like the energy for lack of a quick better word but it only goes so far

A 6 from me also. Sounds so feeble and lethargic compared to the initial live version ...

I adore the energy, almost an anthem, the way he repeats "will I see you" and the Something is squeezing my skull escaped "I take sixteen ", but globally, the lyrics sound they have been written by a thirteen years old fan.

I am torn live I loved this song but the recorded version doesn't live up to the live version and it's frenetic and guitar blistering feel. So I think i'll have to exempt myself from the vote.

I really like this, and I think it's a brilliant recording of a song that sounded great 'live'. It's a 10, in fact.

maybe thisll take away the title from im not a man for most tens

"if you cannot stand this fake world
take my hand

to send me to sleep

to shake me awake
what does it mean?"
