Top veggie restaurants?

I would really like to try Yotam Ottolenghi's place in London - love his recipes in The Guardian.

Also desperate to go to Greens in Manchester.

I thought Yotam Ottolenghi was a woman, judging by the photo that always accompanies those articles? What do I know.

There's one I forgot - David Bann in Edinburgh - went there a few months ago and it was splendid.

You're probably right. I don't think I've ever seen a pic of him/her - usually just salivating over the food!

best restaurant I've ever been:

Pure Food & Wine in NYC

I'm pretty sure that Yotam is a bloke. Is his restaurant veggie? He also writes meaty recipes in the Guardian from time to time.

I live fairly close to Greens in Manchester - it gets rave reviews, but to be honest I've only been once and had one of the worst meals of my life - a vegetarian kebab on cous cous which when served looked like a turd - truely truely awful

Greens is owned by a meat eater - Moz fan Simon Rimmer - I can't get my head around that one - he's a chef that cooks and eats meet, but he runs on of the best renowned vegetarian restaurants

One of the strangest veggie restaurants locally is The Greenhouse http://www.dineveggie.com/ - there's about 50 million things on the menu, usually only one member of staff who has a 'unique' personality...

As well as personal recommendations from veggie Moz fans, you might want to check out the list of establishments that are approved by the Vegetarian Society http://www.seedlingshowcase.com/corporate08/catering.asp

While not strictly veggie.. there are always plenty of veggie dishes at Indian restaurants. There are a lot of good ones in New England.

Hitchcocks in Hull is fantastic! You ring up and if your the first person to book for that night you can chose what nationalitly cuisine you want! Like Italian, Chinese, they do anything!

At the North Side of Chicago, there's the Chicago Diner, which is all vegetarian. I've never been in there, but I would pass by it whenever I'm around the area. I don't know if I wanna step in there, since I'm not a vegetarian at all.

Yep -my 'logic' was slightly flawed wasn't it. Neither are totally veggie. I didn't read the question properly - it's like school exams all over again!

I also dislike that weekend show that Simon Rimmer does - it's awful - so that puts me off slightly as well as your 'turd' experience. Still really want to go though - my Veggie friend went with her family and said it was amazing.

Maybe I will try The Greenhouse out - sounds like an 'experience'.

The Egg Cafe, Liverpool. lovely place, cheap food and a nice atmosphere. http://www.scouseveg.co.uk/eating-out/the-egg/

I love going to the Egg.

There used to be a similar place in Lancaster called the Whale's Tale, it was quite hippy, chilled out and down to earth but it looks like it's gone upmarket since I was last there.... which isn't necessarily a bad thing :) http://www.whaletailcafe.co.uk/contact.htm l

We mustn't forget On the 8th Day cafe in Manchester http://www.eighth-day.co.uk/

And Earth Cafe at the Buddhist Centre http://www.manchesterbuddhistcentre.org.uk/health-well-being/earth-cafe

I went there once. It was a bit of a disappointment. It featured a lot of "meat-replacement" type things--veggie burgers, veggie gyros, veggie hot dogs, etc. They had sweet potato fries, which I was looking forward to, but they were not crisp at all, just soggy slabs.

Somewhere, not sure where, is Veggie Bite which does vegan beefstand better than Chicago Diner. Karyn's Cooked and Karyn's Raw are supposed to be awesome, and down in Hyde Park somewhere is a veg soul food place I always wanted to try. And then there's Green Zebra, which is high-end vegetarian. They do serve a little bit of fish--for the vegetarians' dates, I imagine.

There is an Ethiopian restaurant near the Aragon Ballroom which is fantastic--lots of veggie options. I ate at an Ethiopian restaurant in New York last night and it was every bit as good.

My very favorite in the whole entire world is the Natraj Sweet Centre on Northolt Road in South Harrow; I love those people. It's Indian home cooking made by the nicest ladies in a really clean little takeaway, and it's outrageously cheap, too. You might not think that's sufficient reason to go to South Harrow, but you'd be wrong.

South Harrow is too far from where I live. :(

But the Piccadilly Line is a nice ride once you get past Hammersmith! :) If you ever do happen to end up there, walk out of the station, go left, walk a few blocks and Natraj is right across the road from Sainsbury's.

Looky!
