Movies that must be watched

There are some movies, that when I am flipping through the many channels on satelite TV that, I must stop and watch. I may not watch them in entirety, because I have seen them all many times, but I must watch them for a bit.

Part of the list that comes to mind at the moment is:

River's Edge which Kaneu Reeves
Pulp Fiction
The Flim Flam Man with George C Scott
It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (is that correct number of Mads?)
The Hunger with David Bowie - to see the Bauhaus portion.

There might be others but I can't think of them at this time.

Anyone else have a "must view" list?

Re: Movies that must be watched

i could go on with an impressively long list but since in America we have the upcoming memorial day, i have only one film in mind: Saving Private Ryan.

Re: Movies that must be watched

La Cité Des Enfants Perdus/The City Of Lost Children,
Spirited Away & True Romance.

And whenever Gone With The Wind is on, i just have to watch it. It's compulsory.

Re: Movies that must be watched

What do you think about these?

- Chinatwon (Roman Polanski)
- Grand Prix (Jhon Frankenheimer)
- Weekend (Jean Luc Godard)
- La muerte de un ciclista (Juan Antonio Bardem)
- Scarface (Howard Hawks)
- Zatoichi (Takeshi Kitano)
- To be or not to be (Ernest Lubich)
- Mistery train (Jim Jarmush)
- Jules et Jim (Françoise Truffaut)
- Once upon a time in the west (Sergio Leone)
- Mamma Roma (Pier Paolo Pasolini)

God!! I could be writing titles all night... anyway I think this is a good selection. Isn't it?.

Ooooh, me too! :)

"There was a land of Cavaliers and Cotton Fields called the Old South. Here in this pretty world, Gallantry took its last bow. Here was the last ever to be seen of Knights and their Ladies Fair, of Master and of Slave. Look for it only in books, for it is no more than a dream remembered, a Civilization gone with the wind..."

May the South rise again... ;)

Yes, it is.

I wouldn't choose "Weekend", though, but rather "Masculine Feminine" or "A Woman Is A Woman". And where is "Hiroshima Mon Amour"?

Re: Movies that must be watched

My 3 pics:

1. Deliverance - Dickey (w) and Boorman (d) are both brilliant.
2. Yojimbo - Kurosawa (d): likewise brilliant and Mifune (a) at his peak.
3. Slapshot - funny, base, brilliant, dirty, clever all in one.

Re: Movies that must be watched

I've never been that interested in film -- whenever I choose to rent videos or DVD's (I haven't set foot inside a theatre in over a decade) I usually select opera or documentaries. However, there are a few Classics I enjoy: "Portrait of Jennie", "The Song of Bernadette", "Lust for Life", "Gone with the Wind", and the psychological drama "Dead Ringers" w/ Jeremy Irons. I also have a minor facination with classic slapstick comedians like The Marx Brothers, Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy, and Buster Keaton.

Hey, River's Edge was on cable late last night, were you watching too?? Crispin Glover makes it irresistable.

I agree on Pulp Fiction. It's impossible to turn the channel from it. I like watching Jackie Brown even more.

The Big Lebowski is a movie I'm completely addicted to. Love, love, love John Goodman!!!!

I think people should get the special edition of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, which adds scenes that were not originally included in the English-language version. Not only is it one of the best movies ever made, but it's a good DVD to rent for Morrissey fans since it has a special featurette about Il Maestro, Ennio Morricone. :)

Re: Movies that must be watched

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind as well as Downfall are two rather extraordinary films from the past couple of years that are well worth watching.

Re: Movies that must be watched

I just can't watch movies on the tv ... it is usually pan & scanned, not in the language that it was shot etc ...
