Poe's always good. So is HP Lovecraft. If you want something more contemporary you could go for Stephen King, or Clive Barker, or lesser lights like Poppy Z Brite.

Thanks. Actually, I've been toying with the idea of reading "The Stand". (Stephen King) Ooh, Poe and HP Lovecraft! :thumb:

I don't know their names, but whoever wrote the best horror books in history, such as: Genesis, Exodus, Deuteronomy, Ecclesiastes, Numbers, Obadiah, and many others.

I think somebody put together a collection of these books. I forgot the name though

Poe is classic. Stephen King and Clive Barker are two of my favorite authors. Off the top of my head, I would also recommend Richard Matheson and Shirley Jackson.

As far as books go, this:

This is the best book I've read in a good long while.

Ambrose Bierce, M.R.James, H.P.Lovecraft.

Ambrose, didn't he do something to do with a dictionary? I can't be arsed t' google lad.
H/P Lovecraft...very porn star sounding with added sauce.

He did "The Devil's Dictionary", lad. A lexicon of cynical definitions of everyday words. Right up my street. :thumb:

For example.

"Selfish: Devoid of consideration for the selfishness of others."

Nicola, I cain't see what you posted. :( I assume 'tis a picture.

I read The Exorcist when I was in the 6th Grade. My parents wouldn't let me see the movie because it was rated R so I did the next best thing and read the book ;) it scared the crap out of me!

Ambrose Bierce is one of my all-time heroes; I've been a bit obsessed with him from a very early age. :blushing:

Me too!

I first encountered his work at about the age of 11 at school in my English literature work book. "An Occurance At Owl Creek Bridge"
Chickamauga is one of the greatest short stories ever written, horror or otherwise. :guitar:

That is one of the finest short stories ever, as you say. Unforgettable. They are all special, though.
