Gnarly isn't it. Well that is racing, or life really. Feeling very strong and motivated. I put myself here, to RACE, not ride. To stand against others without fear. To go deep, face the struggle and basically see who can manage the suffering the most.
I was leading the race. I made a gap from the field of racers by attacking on an uphill. Over the crest of the hill I was trying to gain time on a technical downhill that ended in a hairpin turn. I went down, low-side in the hairpin. I slid for a while on the pavement. I got up, made my self assessment and without hesitation I made the conscious decision to get back on that bike because you know what, I came here to RACE. By then I was caught and I rejoined the pack. Something like that does take a little out of you. That did not stop me from competing and trying win to the end. If you are upright, it ain't over till it's over.
You have to pay to play. There are risks with doing anything. Emotionally, physically, it's all the same. You have to show up to the start line and give it. But there may be a price to pay. Taking risk for reward can be a little bloody. A little uncomfortable. The deal is, your going take a bit of both if you put yourself out there to be counted. This has a lot in common with life in general.
Step up to the start line, you will fail, fall, suffer and get bloody. But most of all you will rejoice from the experience, adversity and vanishing self doubt that comes from surviving. Hey, every now and then though, you will get a absolutely complete and crushing win. Always look for the win.
