Security of maturity

Oh how I like being the age I am. Teens and twenties on your side, while the thirties and forties are on mine.

Teens and twenties so full of change in every direction almost never standing on two feet. Still working so many life things out. An extremely exciting time though and I remember so many great things. I think you make all of your mistakes here. If it doesn't kill you, you will make it to the promised land. I don't want to discredit that time, I had to put in a lot of work during that period.

Came to stride in my late twenties, early thirties. Things really settled down with clearer and less fractured focus. You have a "journeymen" status which makes your problems easier to solve. As Morrissey so pointedly told me, "your royalties bring you luxuries" and it seems as if my forties are playing out this way.

This year, my wife and I have been sketching out a 10 year plan. This will put me retired and the kids through college. I mean, my wife and I do so many things now and for the kids, our days are full. This is going to mean the plan is basically no kids and no work. My wife and I have to talk about what life is going to be like for "US". What we want to do together and what we will want to do individually. It's like a trip to think about 10 years from now.

I know that if we don't have these regular conversations now, in 10 years, we will be different people who haven't talked in 10 years. I mean, how do you stay close to someone you haven't talked to in 10 years. Thankfully we are pretty rational about it and recognized that.

Thank goodness I'm not 20 anymore.
