Daily Star, Saturday May the first 2004 has the following 'review' of Quarry: A sorry Quarry Morrisssey's album You Are The Quarry fills me with anger. I hate his smug face, self-indulgent lyrics and inability to write a tune. He sings 'I've had my face dragged in 15 miles of s**t'. Maybe that's why it spills so readily from his mouth. Buy it so you can break it.

Possibly not a good idea, the Star is a paper for people who find the Sun a bit too intellectual.

1) i asked him why he was basing his opinion on one lyric.
2) Why did he hate, morrissey so much (the article was written with bile) - i questioned his sanity and in the words of sigmund freud asked him to tell me about his mother.after all i might dislike westlife but to go so over the top in a review( even the NME didn't go this far!! EVER!)
3) If he hated Morrissey's smug face - why didn't look at a more up to date picture, the one printed was from 15 years ago.
his reply - (and he doesnt usually reply!! - "the pleasure of the privilege is mine!") was that morrissey was a love/ hate artist and he was the later. He also said that he did have the latest photo of Moz (no reason given why an old one was shown).
and finally and this shows his level of intelligence - he accused me of dissing his column (i didn't - i questioned his comments) and dissing his mother - my sigmund freud comment had flown completely over his head.
Pillock!

Joe,
you are correct in that morrissey is a hate him or like character and i can't say that i approve of the way that he has treated those around him in business. and yes he does look smug - even now.. and you are entitled to your views.
I however have to correct you - i did not have a go at you mother, the comment was a reference to Sigmund Freud - the psychologist - it was a comment on your state of mind... but you have explained yourself well. i couldn't let you dis my idol!!! He does have a high importance to those that love him, including me.
you are also right about his music- fans have been infuriated by the dull music for yes - it runs something like this good album, bad album, good album, bad.... confusingly the yanks like the bad ones.
i hope i have explained myself as well as you did - you are right about the Streets and the other talent out there and i do enjoy your column.
Thanks for the reply, and regards
Stephen
