Johnny Marr was on BBC Radio 2 last night (Monday 29 September 2003) on the Richard Allinson show. He's on till Thursday at the same time (somewhere between 2230-2400), introducing songs he's written/co-written. He said something very brief about The Boy With The Thorn In His Side. Him and Morrissey RECENTLY ("shock horror", he commented) agreed that if ever a Smiths songs was to be rereleased it should be that one. "There's a scoop", he said.

Mattias writes:

Swedish television show "Musikbyrån" will broadcast new and exclusive interviews with all four members of The Smiths (yes, including Morrissey, but naturally they wont appear together as an ensemble) on October 27, 22.30.
This is stated in the weekly "Musikbyrån" newsletter that i got today. It's not officially stated on their hompage yet but i'm sure it will be soon. Below is copy of the newsletter:

Eftersom de flesta mailskrivande Smiths-fans verkar är så otåliga, eller har
videor som måste programmeras minst en månad i förväg, tänkte vi vara snälla och
meddela att våra intervjuer med alla bandmedlemmarna sänds onsdagen
den 27 oktober, 22.30.

"15 things to say to piss off a Smiths fan.

This article is in "Zero", a brazilian magazine.

1 - Morrissey is gay.
2 - Morrissey is so gay.
3 - Jhonny Marr was ok but the rest of the band was crap.
4 - Jhonny Marr was ok but he was not so good solo.
5 - "Rusholme Ruffians" is a copy of "(Marie's the name)His latest flame".
6 - Morrissey's maturity as a poet was reached in "Ouija Board, Ouija Board".
7 - They didn't need to say that they hated videoclips. The ones they left said it all.
8 - What touches people in the Smiths' discography is that cows sounds in the beginning of "Meat Is Murder".
9 - When I listen to the band I get so excited as andy Rourke used to get on stage.
10 - Morrissey still have time to complain about life and get a descent job.
11 - When Mick Ronson produced "Your arsenal" he was already severally affect by his disease and couldn't distinguish what as right from what was wrong.
12 - Did you buy the pillowcase that was been sold on the Latin-america tour? Did it really had a "Bite Here" in the corner?
13 - You that is a fan: can you explain why Morrissey used a band-aid in the nipple in the "November Spawned a Monster" video?
14 - If The Buzzcocs didn't exist, Manchester would be irrelevant today.
15 - Morrissey is really gay."

That article was very stupid. If the person who wrote thought that it was going to be funny, he was way wrong.

It's a two face... left side is Moz himself and the right it's James Dean. I call it "self portrait".

Last night (9/28), at the Trocadero Theatre in Philadelphia, the rock band Nada Surf covered "There is a light and it never goes out." They played the song very much like the original, it sounded very good. Most of the crowd (maybe 750 people) seemed like they didn't recognize the song. After the show I talked to the singer Matthew and he said he saw the Smiths on the Meat is Murder tour and that he was a big fan. I suggested he listen to some Morrissey solo records. He asked which one to buy...I suggested Viva Hate. He said he would definitely check it out. Nada Surf is an amazing band in their own right, you should check them out!!

The October issue of German magazine "Musikexpress" features two full pages on The Smiths under the headline "The World Will Listen". The article is basically about The Smiths' huge influence on pop music at a time of standstill in musical innovation and inspiration at the time of 1982/83. It also features two photographs of the band live on stage, who to me appear to have never been released before.
