IBEH is in at number 2 in the UK midweek chart. Likely to drop towards the end of the week as we, the fanbase, were of course out in force yesterday but a top 5 placing seems likely and at the very least a top 10 position. All in all a victorious return for Mozza.

It seems that Morrissey will appear in French TV on saturday May 15th. The show is called "Tout le Monde en Parle" and it's presented by Thierry Ardisson and will be on France 2 at about 11PM.

It's a very famous (but very awful and cynical) show. Generally, the guests are Politics, Singers, Actors, Porn Star. In a nutshell, everything.

It's not sure but it seems to be true. Good bye and excuse my english.

I just received an e-mail from amazon.co.uk that claims my copy of "You Are the Quarry" (with DVD) has been shipped! A quick jaunt to the website tells me that the release date has, in fact, been pushed up (link); the album is already out in the U.K.

Can anyone confirm or deny? I thought it wasn't due to be released until 17 May!

I was just tuning in to Radio 4 at 7:30 today and I hear a short review about You Are The Quarry and an interview with Simon Armitage (Yorkshire born poet/author) about Morrissey. I wasn't able to transcribe the session, but here are some interesting quotes:
Interviewer: "Heaven knows he's still as miserable as he was 20 years ago. So, Simon, what do you think of this new album?"
Simon Armitage: "Moderately disappointing... The music has got to be as good as it always has been, and for Morrissey it's just getting less and less and less..."
"There are some great moments on this album..."
"But, Where's the wit? Where's the vintage Morrissey?"
"No detail, just abstract statements here I'm afraid."

Simon Armitage quoted lines after lines of classic Morrissey lyrics. He's obviously a fan. It seemed throughout the interview that he was being lead into disapproving of the album by the interviewer ("There isn't really anything good, is there?" and "'Drinking tea with a taste of the Thames' We've heard it all before, haven't we?" although Simon broke out of that one with 'I quite like that line actually'). When he was left to his own devices, his general aura seemed to tell you he was in love with it... but the introduction to the interview was just too dismal to put a shine on it. Sounds like a 3/5 to me, but I'm sure Simon was edging towards 4/5 in his English Heart.

there will be a special record release party in "DIE SCHEUNE" in LEIPZIG on friday the 14th of may. according to the flyer it will begin on 22.30 and there you can get different stuff like vinyl, cd's, posters... on the website you can't find anything about the event, just the normal britpop party that takes place there every week. i think the morrissey party will be part of the RIALTO LOUNGE (name of the weekly britpop disco)and the dj's will play nearly only morrissey and smiths stuff on this evening!

Morrissey album preview in Manchester (May 15)
The Saturday night before the MEN Arena gig (15th May) The Brickhouse nightclub in Manchester will be playing all of the tracks off the new album (plus those great new B-sides) in a special preview prior to it's 17th May release date. There'll be a free raffle ticket given to everyone who comes down to win the last 2 Morrissey standing tickets for the MEN Arena and the last 2 tickets to our After-show Party too. There'll be loads of other quality guitar-driven music too, so it's worth a gamble if you're one of the unlucky ones still stuck without tickets (the club only holds around 200 so the odds of winning are considerably higher that the lottery!).

Admission in, which include a free raffle ticket, costs only £3.50 before 11.30pm.

WHALLEY RANGER writes:

The Brickhouse is one of Manchester's longest-running Indie clubs (just over 13 years and counting!) and people have been dancing to the Smiths and Morrissey there every week since the day it opened.

The management, barstaff, security (yes, even one of the doormen!) and nearly all of the regulars are going to the MEN gig and we all fancied a party afterwards to celebrate this momentous occasion.

"The Songs That Made You Smile"- our Morrissey After-show Party- is not a so-called "official" after-show party- us common folk don't get into these type of dos (and they're usually not very good parties anyway!).
This is a night of Morrissey/Smiths music (and a bit of other suitable stuff) for ordinary fans who want to carry on after the gig with like-minded souls. there's also a free raffle to win an autographed, framed photograph of Moz and there'll be a giant Birthday card for everyone to sign which Sanctuary Records have guaranteed me will get to Morrissey in person.

There's loads of other Morrissey/Smiths surprises planned and Sanctuary have promised us some cracking Moz memorabilia etc. to auction off for charity.

We were all taken by surprise when the event sold out in three days, with fans travelling from the USA, France, Italy, germany, Luxembourg ( a buck-toothed girl, maybe?) and all across the UK. Tickets are now being sold on Ebay for £25+ by unscrupulous scoundrels- a practice we whole-heartedly condemn.

I'll be DJing on the night and have been a pashernate fan of Moz/The Smiths since the beginning- I first saw him at the Palace Theatre in Manchester in 1985 on the Meat is Murder Tour and put on this night because I love the man and his music and wanted to have a truly great night carry on after the lights dim on that MEN stage. I aim to give every fan a chance to request and hear their favourite tune (hopefully, I won't get asked for "Moon River" though).

Incidently, the Saturday night before the gig (15th May) I'll be playing all of the tracks off the new album at the club prior to it's 17th May release date and there'll be a free raffle ticket given to everyone who comes down to win the last 2 Morrissey standing tickets for the MEN Arena and the last 2 tickets to our After-show Party too.

There'll be loads of other quality guitar-driven music too, so it's worth a gamble if you're one of the unlucky ones still stuck without tickets (the club only holds around 200 so the odds of winning are considerably higher that the lottery!).
Along with Events at the Star and Garter and the Morrissey's Manchester Tours on Friday and Saturday, it looks like there'll be plenty to do for the Moz fan in Manchester for the MEN Arena gig.
If you're coming down to the club, make sure you come up to the DJ box, say hello, and ask for a fave Moz/Smiths tune.
