Johnny Marr: 'The Smiths might reform' - NME.com

The guitarist won't rule out reunion

Johnny Marr has said that The Smiths may reform.

Different members of the band have ruled out offers of reuniting over the years, with Morrissey most recently revealing that he turned down a near £40 million offer to tour again.

However, Marr has told BBC Five Live's Victoria Derbyshire that "stranger things have happened so, you know, who knows?"

He added: "It's no biggy. Maybe we will in 10 or 15 years time when we all need to for whatever reasons, but right now Morrissey is doing his thing and I'm doing mine, so that's the answer really."

A 2 or 3 page piece overall - here's the Morrissey/Smiths segment of the interview...

Pete Doherty meets Paul McCartney - The Observer Music Month

"Pete: What about The Smiths?

SPM: Yeah, I like them. Linda was into Morrissey; they wrote to each other a lot. Big fans. I played with Johnny (Marr) a bit. It was original.

Pete: Falling guitar lines where there's no chords and you spend three weeks trying to work out what he's really playing.

SPM: You could tell it was Morrissey. It was like his paint palette...
(Pete starts singing The Smiths song 'Still Ill')
SPM: (appreciative) Have you ever covered that?

Pete: No.

SPM: It's obviously a song you love. It's in your blood.

Pete: I got it as a seven inch from a second hand shop in Nuneaton. It was on a wall, and I thought I was being clever 'cause I nicked it - but I'd only nicked the sleeve. So I had to go back and pay for the record. As soon as the guitar started I didn't even listen to the rest of it, I just wanted to play it again and again. I didn't want it to end...

SPM: The nice thing about having kids is that you get a lot of that through them. You get the next wave of musical education coming off them. Heather particularly - she's a big music buff, she went to all the shows. But for me, someone like Ray Davies and the Kinks would be like that for my generation."

And then the topic of the interview changes. hope it was of interest!

I found this on Popbytes.com. It's a mashup by "Cheekyboy" of "Ouija Board, Ouija Board," some Halloween-related sounds, a rap in the middle--all tied up in the end with "How Soon Is Now." Interesting.

I was scrolling through MSN today and found this tidbit:

Wittiest Lyrics - MSN Music

"People who dismiss Morrissey as miserable miss the point spectacularly. Quite simply, he's responsible for some of the wittiest lyrics ever committed to tape. While it would be foolish to try to identify a single example as his best, the wonderfully knowing self-deprecation of "I used to dream and I used to vow / I wouldn't dream of it now" captures his essence perfectly."
