From Dagenham Dave:

Local alternative radio station Q101 in Chicago did a listing of the top 1011 songs of all time. "Smells like Teen Spirit" was number one but The Smiths and Morrissey were all over the place in the countdown. Here is where they showed up:

1008 - What Difference Does it Make?
708 - Tomorrow
689 - There is a Light That Never Goes Out
621 - A Rush and a Push
614 - Bigmouth Strikes Again
586 - The Queen is Dead
486 - Half a Person
411 - Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before
345 - Panic
282 - Suedehead
258 - Everyday is Like Sunday
242 - Girlfriend in a Coma
15 - How Soon is Now?

This blows my mind...Q101 is basically a crap station which caters to the latest trend...I dont recall EVER hearing the lot of those songs on radio. Id also guess that the majority of their listening base couldnt name a Smiths song to save their life. HANG THE DJ

Actually I wouldn't say that the radio stations have never played these songs because they have...I dont know about that particular station but KROQ 106.7 does...unfortunatly not as much as they used to....but they do.

No she's right, this radio station sucks, i haven't heard them play the smiths or morrissey in normal rotation in years. You can get the smiths every now and then if you call up during the retro hour and hound them to play something!

AN ADDENUM TO MY PREVIOUS MESSAGE.
ONE STATION IN THE NYC METRO AREA DOES HAVE
THE BALLS TO PLAY MORRISSEY/SMITHS SONGS.
WLIR IN LONG ISLAND, NY HAS BEEN A STAUNCH
SUPPORTER OF THEIR MUSIC AND OTHER BANDS
OF THE NON-COMMERCIAL ALTERNATIVE SCENE.
MORRISSEY AND THE SMITHS WERE HIGHLY REPRESENTED
IN THE NEW YEAR'S WEEKEND COUNTDOWN.
GOD BLESS WLIR.

I can't believe they left off David Hasselhoff and the Kelly Family(the traveling inbreds w/funny accents and even worse hair and costumes).I mean I can forgive them for not mentioning Corey Feldman or Billy Ray Cyrus. Perhaps next year they will get it right!!

i hate Q101 as much as anyone, but everytime i turn on their"retro hour" i hear smiths or morrissey.
this list was made by people voting online, not the station's opinions.

Chicago sux - two words - Oprah Winfrey. Why the hell is there is a light so low down? that's our fave song! It seems most of the real fans didn't vote if how soon is now came out top. Plus looking at the whole list, what's the fixation with 80s synth-pop? do Howard Jones, OMD, Depeche Mode and Erasure really constitute alternative music? methinks not! what a strange country you are ;)

Nothing is wrong with the 80's syn-pop music. The jabroni who bashed OMD, Depeche Mode etc has no idea how the alternative music scene first started. Keep listening to your new "alternative" bands like Blink 182, Sugar Ray and all those other 1 or 2 hit wonders that will not be remembered by their own mom's in a 24 hour period let alone in a few years. Q101 sucks BIG time ass but you have to remember that those teeny boppers listeners do have money to spend and $$$ speaks loud and clear!
