I am not sure if anybody will come or not, I am just organising the first and maybe the last Smiths party in Turkish history!

I was frustrated a little bit when I heard that the party would be organised by a girl.(Am I a facist?)After all these years I still think The Smiths is for boys.Anyway I appreciate any kind of effort about the most wonderful creature in the universe. That night the movie "O Thiassos" from Angelopoulos will be on the İstanbul Film Festival(for the first time).Still ill...

Happy Prince please come back and explain yourself. It is distressing to know that someone claiming to be a Smiths fan can be such a mysogynistic bigot.

I don't think happy prince was being misogynistic at all, and certainly not bigoted...I, at least, just think boys can identify a lot more with what morrissey's singing about than girls could. it's like, I love, say, heavens to betsy, but I doubt their songs affect me as much as they would a girl. I don't think that's a misanthropic thing to say, just the truth. but who knows, I've been wrong all too often before...

have you ever been a girl? how do you know?

when a girl says, "i felt lonely and out of place," does it mean something different then when a guy says, "i felt lonely and out of place"?

AS COMMENTS GO BRIAN YOURS RATES AS ONE OF THE MOST IRRITATING. I SEE YOU ARE IN LA, IM IN MANCHESTER, I COULD SUGGEST THAT THE SONGS MEAN MORE TO ME BECAUSE I GREW UP SAME TIME, SAME PLACE ETC, BUT IM NOT. MORRISSEY APPEALS TO EVERYONE ITS NOT ABOUT GENDER. YOU SHOULD REALLY BE LISTENING TO THE CHARTS, THEY HAVE GIRL/BOY BANDS, YOU MIGHT BE MORE AT HOME THERE. OPEN YOUR MIND OR STOP CLAIMING TO LIKE MORRISSEY.

well, I'm sorry to have offended so many people in england...I suppose at this point I should just keep my keyboard shut, but I just can't help myself...

1) I didn't mean to say that there's no possible way for girls to identify with morrissey, or to find appeal in what he's saying. rather, morrissey being a boy, I'd say his songs come more from a boy's perspective of and experience with life, which I at least imagine to be a bit different from a girls. similarly, marilyn, I would have no problem with you claiming to identify more with smith songs having grown up in the same place/at the same time; while I have a general idea of a "headmaster ritual" experience,I certainly didn't go to any manchester boarding school. which is all I'm getting at about the whole boy/girl thing...

2) heavens to betsy are the first deeply emotional girl band that came to my mind. they were on the kill rock stars label, corin from sleater kinney was in it...

anyways, sorry again to have lit such angry fuses. I really didn't mean to bitterly decree morrissey only for boys (as if it were in my power!) silly boys like brian will continue to come here and hope people are irate with him a little less...

You really should think of a career in politics Brian, you seem to be apologising for the fuss you've caused without actually retracting any of your comments. Well done!
