There are lots of us old geezers around who are Morrissey fans. It does not require a certain age (20- or 30-somethings) for Morrissey's words to fit the soundtrack to your life. I haven't minded being the oldest person at a concert.

I hope the Moz's tunes are played at my retirement party in a few years! So long as he doesn't retire BEFORE I do!

Wow, a lot of us were little kids when Hand in Glove first came out. You'd think more of Moz's fans would be nearer his age. I think Morrissey's lyrics must appeal to young people especially, though. All that stuff about parents and loneliness and misery and bad jobs ...

Oh yeah, shouldn't the catagories be".....from 21 to 25, from 25 to 29......" It just sort of struck me as strange! I don't mean to be so particular, I really do appreciate all that you d o for us David.

This survey is a success! I can't wait for others. This is quite a revelation as to the range in ages of Morrizzey fans. We would make a village, wouldn't we?

These results kind of surprised me, and also sort of didn't. I figured my age group (15 - 19) would be bigger than what it is (like closer to the 20 - 24 age group). In less than five months, I would have pitched my vote into the 20 - 24 group anyway. There are Moz fans under 9 and over 60?! That's pretty cool. The music of Morrissey and The Smiths is timeless. Age has nothing to do with its appeal, or his. Love, peace, and harmony to all :o)

Yes, I voted in the 20-24 range even though I feel odd being lumped in with college sophomores who are trying to pass the Intro to Physics that they failed last semester after partying too much while I'm puttering around at my steady income job and being harassed about my IRA and healthcare plan. I feel so out of it. Does anyone else feel old after doing this?

These results are really quite intriguing... there are Morrissey and Smiths fans under age 9 and over 60?! Cool! I also expected my age group (15 - 19) to have a little more weight, but within less than five months time, I would have pitched my vote to the 20 - 24 age group anyway. Age has no affect on a person's feeling of affinity towards Morrissey and The Smiths. Their appeal is timeless... however, it is interesting to find out how we all pan out.

I'm yet another one for the 15-19 category... I'm 16. I first heard Moz when I was 10 or 11, but was never a big fan until recently. It's good to see other Smiths/Moz fans close to my age.

I am not surprised to see such a wide variety of Morrissey fans, although I have to admit that I think its very funny to see those who have absolutely no idea who The Smiths are but swear that they love Morrissey.I am 24 years old now and I can remember liking The Smiths when I was as young as 10 when my older sister would play their music. I think that all Morrissey/Smiths fans are unique in their own way...you can always trust a true Morrissey fan.

The true nature and feelings in one's spirit are not changed by age. This is an interesting poll, and I'm glad to see so many young fans, and am especially intregued by the older ones! Just goes to show, the passing of time doesn't close the minds of all human beings. What a nice realization that is.

I became a Moz fan just after I turned 16--of course, clumsy and shy. What else can one be with braces, glasses one refuses to wear and a strong affinity for passion and the written word? I've finally come into my own--but without the moral support of Morrissey's music, I don't know if I'd have survived my failures and the loathesome, ignorant massess that surrounded me.

Let's hope Morrissey always continues to have this supportive effect on all the young people who hear his words. Hopefully, they'll end up lifelong fans, way past 60!

Long live our Moz!!

I'm a 29 year old who hated the Smiths at first, but then I heard "Sheila" on may way home from school my senior year. And well, I get it now. The Moz & co. are truly increadible. Much to my wife's chagrin I simply nab up anything about the Mozzer. This site rocks like a T.REX cut! Keep it up.

It's too bad, but those under 20 years of age missed something very special. All the single releases, the subway posters, the magazine covers and extensive interviews seem to be very distant. I can't believe Morrissey, once poster child of Q magazine, didn't even have his 40th birthday mentioned. As for age, who cares? I know I don't want to be on this earth forever.

Thinking about this a little longer makes me realize that it really hasn't been that long ago, not at all. I'm around today because of the joy, longing and waiting for new singles and albums. And I was never, ever disappointed. I am happy that Morrissey has younger fans and I hope he realizes that he has given all of his fans a raison d'etre. Moz is still the best!!!!

Here's a quote from the NME a few years back - they were talking about "This Charming Man" coming out in 1983 and it said in parenthesis, "Yes, you really are that old." Coming up on thirty and having remembered hearing it when it first came out (I was 14), I do feel old...

I'm 25, but only got into Moz/Smiths after I left school about 7 years ago. As a child of the 80's I was into @#!!!e such as Duran Duran and Erasure well into my teens. My earliest memory of The Smiths was of this boring, serious outfit with no attraction whatsoever. My two most reviled groups were The Smiths and The Cure, the two bands that I now realise as being the most wonderful and inspiring bands ever. Better late than never, but I wish I had listened to this music during those dodgy teenage years.

Interesting how we all started listening to Moz when we were a bunch of pre-pubers. And, for the "wiser, more mature" crowd, just because I'm only 19, doesn't mean that I missed out on the subway posters and singles, I have them all...thanks to my older brother (hanging my young head in shame).

And don't forget that because of our love and devotion for Morrissey, we are ALL extensions of him, and it is our duty to venture out into the dark loneliness of humanity and rescue other lost souls by introducing them to the therapy that the Mozzer's music is.

I'm just glad that I was lucky enough to have had his music to turn to, literally, since the very beginning of my life.

p.s. doesn't my e-mail address just suit me?!
