I think Proper and Richard Blade are the same person...

OMG - someone bothered to put an 'Oingo Boingo' tribute band together?

If you think that's odd, Bore, someone put together an Adam Ant tribute too. They're called Ant Invasion and they're from Seattle. They played before the Hooligans on New Year's Eve. They were actually quite good (I mean, I got kinda into them and I barely know any of Adam Ant's songs), but it still struck me as odd that anybody would be so devoted to that particular band as to form a cover band!

Are my friends and I the only people a bit perplexed by this? (And I don't mean this to be disparaging in any way. Just seems like a difficult band to love enough to do all that.)

Hey Mindy,
Sorted some of that "stuff" out by the way. I'm in the oddest happy-sad space right now. Now changed for ever and perhaps even for the better.

But so far as Adam and the Ants goes, well when i was growing up, there were few bigger pop acts around. And musically, they were really interesting, taking many aspects of African music and other music styles and incorporating them in a pop context in a way that's still quite unique, even if the practise itself is now passe.

So I am not surprised at all about this. If they're any good I'd probably make time to go and see them.

Well I'm glad that you're working stuff out. If you want to talk about it, feel free to email. I promise I'll reply to it all eventually (just kidding, soon -- just been busy getting ready to go back to my flat with its nice internet connection...ah, bliss). Good luck.

Yes, I've just had an email from a friend on this site (I'll reply soon -- and to you too, Bore) informing me of Adam and the Ants huge following in LA. He let me off the hook though since I hadn't been born yet when their popularity was at its peak. I do find the music interesting and fun and I knew more of the songs than I thought I would. (On the way home, my friends and I all admitted to each other that, on the way there, we'd all been trying to figure out if we even knew any songs by the band. I knew about five.) I guess what confused me was the dress-up aspect. I can like a band that dresses up in outrageous costumes, but I dunno if I could ever have a real emotional bond with their music. It's the same story with KISS. I don't understand people who say KISS is their favorite band. I guess the only difference would be that KISS blows, in my humble opinion.
