About a that homecoming concert '04, & erh ... a flower

Well, I was wondering if any of you knows why Morrissey is wearing a flower(?) in neath his belt during the Manchester homecoming concert '04 - y'know the taped concert aka Who Put The "M" In Manchester. During the concert he throws it into the audience, but is it a symbol of anything? Or does it mean anything in particular? Cudweed
