Is music important?

Music, as dunya said, is communication- one of the most expressive and direct kinds.

It's also a supreme comfort. To find an artist or a song which really moves you and speaks to you about your life and experience is a rare and wonderful thing.

Furthermore, at its best it is all the arts rolled into one- theatre and literature and the recorded sound combining to make something really special and often quite pure. Some of the greatest minds of the modern world have been musicians, and that's no coincidence. To create good music you need intelligence, intuition and understanding.
