John Lennon -- Lover of Persian Cats.

From the Goldman bio:
"Lennon's only companions aboard his raft are his three cats , Sasha, Misha, and Charo, owl-faced, yellow-eyed, black-haired Persians. When he makes out his list of chores every morning, the needs of the cats stand first. If one of them appears to be missing, John will sound an alarm on the intercom to the kitchen, and the maids will start scouring the halls, even knocking on the neighbors' doors. Though adverse to any kind of physical effort, John loves to cut into tiny morsels the cats' prime beef and costly liver and to groom their gleaming coatswith his array of combs, brushes, and clippers. The other members of the household dislike these animals because they foul the rooms with their hair and excrement, but John insists that his pets be treated as if they lived in ancient Egypt."

Persians do take a lot of grooming. How long does it take to comb Spinoza every day? I comb Katie every other day. She is a Norwegian Forest Cat. So, her fur is semi-long, but it does not matt like a Persian's.

Often I miss days, but I like to devote at least seven minutes a day to grooming...even that seldom keeps away matting, which he encourages by rubbing chin and jaw, as cats are wont, against EVERYTHING. He has had many "lion cuts" over the years. Are Nowegian Forest Cats the breed that likes water?

I don't believe that NFCs like water. I do though, lol.

Here is a nice site that gives a good description of this breed.

I do not think that I would have another Persian because of the difficulty in keeping them well-groomed. I might consider a semi-longhaired breed such as the Norwegian Forest Cat or a Ragdoll.

Interesting thought, what would those brits who are so adamantly against keeping cats permanetly indoors do with a Ragdoll? These EXTREMELY docile cats will not even defend themselves when attacked.

That is a gorgeous cat.
Although, it sounds as if it has been specifically bred to be docile. Was this done for the American market then, who choose to imprison their four legged friends? I'm not being facetious by the way. Is this the case?
If it is, then that's as wicked as de-clawing. Imagine him straying outdoors and meeting the local Thomas O'Malley.
