Hotel heiress, master self-promoter and aspiring pop-music star Paris Hilton (music) will issue her first album on Aug. 22, two weeks later than previously announced.
The self-titled set was made with the help of some of the hottest producers money can buy, including Scott Storch (50 Cent, Beyonce), Jonathan "J.R." Rotem (Rihanna) and Dr. Luke (Pink, Kelly Clarkson).
Among the songwriters who contributed to the set were Kara DioGuardi (Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, Ashlee Simpson), Billy Steinberg (Madonna, Cyndi Lauper) and Sheppard Solomon (Natalie Imbruglia).
Rappers Jadakiss and Fat Joe appear on the album track "Fightin' Over Me."
Hilton's album already has its first hit, "Stars are Blind," which currently sits at No. 16 on Billboard's pop singles chart. The track was officially issued June 5, shortly after it was leaked by Ryan Seacrest on Los Angeles radio station KIIS-FM.
Other tracks on the album include a cover of Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy," "Turn It Up" (described in a press release as a "club banger") and "I Want You" (said to flaunt "the knowing pop smarts of her idols Madonna, Gwen Stefani, and Blondie's Deborah Harry").
A television special that looks at the making of the album will debut Aug. 8 on MTV and VH1; the video for "Stars are Blind" is currently in rotation on both stations.

Yep, Satan plays a trick with us all.
Her new single gets a lot of airplay here, and her video clip is played a lot too. Makes me puke. Everytime.

They've been talking about this so long that I assumed it had been released months ago. I thought I'd missed it.

a cover of rod steward's do you think i'm sexy?
oh, boy. what's next, the itsy bitsy spider?

Eurgh, sickmaking isn't it. One of my friends loves it, as much as I try to persuade her that it is meaningless, tuneless drivel sung by a bimbo who cannot sing, and who (in my opinion) ought to be shot at with a very large rifle (preferably by me.)

It's a good pop song. I think she says more about the world that we live in than Morrissey or any other smug lyricist could ever hope to. She's the perfect metaphor for our age. A regular Wilde, she's spending all her time creating a persona and she is always in control of the media. She's Ziggy all over again. She's Ophelia. She's consuming herself like Nietzsche's flame, but without burning out. Remember Bowie's explanation of Ziggy's success: "My plastic rocker was much more plastic than anybody's". She's a genius.

I liked your post, Dazzak, especially in light of how close it veers toward beautiful parody, but can we at least distinguish between a cultural commodity used in a brilliant way and an actual genius? Most of what you said about Paris Hilton is true, but I'm reluctant to grant the woman herself any kind of real agency.

As for dragging Oscar Wilde and Friedrich Nietzsche into this-- shame on you. They'd have made much better porn stars than Paris, or at any rate used better lighting.

I like the single, too. Didn't know it was her, but it's a nice summery song, not unlike Blondie's The Tide Is High.
Much better than that godawful Shakira single anyway.

I don't like it that much but its bearable, better than most of the drivel that has come out of Morrissey's mouth in the past 10 years

Apparently, she's also trying to steal Morrissey's calling card as well...

Read somewhere recently, where she says she's now CELIBATE

What next, is she going to start spouting off about Politics??

Can somebody just take a shot at her already??

The single sounds exactly like Kingston Town.

To balance the negative with a positive, I know someone who met Paris Hilton and said that she was very kind, well mannered and a good laugh.
