Why does Morrissey detest Pete Doherty?

This never made sense to me. Pete loves Morrissey, practically worships Morrissey. He's covered at least 4 of his songs that I'm aware of..."Jeane", "Rubber Ring", "Well I Wonder" and "Everyday is Like Sunday", and his takes his cue on a lyrical phrase in "Down in Albion" straight from "What She Said".

I know Pete has said he wants to knock Morrissey's block off after the infamous meeting in which Morrissey snubbed Pete, but anyone knows why Morrissey feels the way he does?

Certainly he's not preferring Carl Barat over Pete? Nothing against Carl, but Pete was the true poet in the Libertines.

Because Pete is a heroine addict that is the reason the Libertines broke up. I'm a little pissed at Pete too, but I think Moz is doing it for his own good, maybe he'll wake up and stop abusing himself.

btw, does anyone have those covers that pete has done available for download?

I would be eternally grateful!

pete covered jeane and there is a light ... thats it

also, morrissey doesnt dislike pete at all in fact he is a big fan of his lyrics and music. What he is concerned about is his image and drug intake and the whole rock n rol cliche car crash affair.

Morrissey detests the way Doherty is wasting his talent and his life. He is piiful, and Moz feels sorry for him. At this rate an OD is in Doherty's near future.

thats pretty much what i said

Might be because Morrissey knows first hand what a drug adiction can do to an otherwise stable and coherent band. Just a thought but given Doherty's self destructive attitude and shambolic live shows showing little or no regard for the fans you can't blame Morrissey for his stance in this case.

i saw them live on the last tour and they were fantastic - after the gig he played live to fans from his bus with his accoustic - signs atuographs for about an hour. but yes he is unpredictable and doesnt show up for gigs - wait a minute who does that sound like?

Good point!
You don't have to be on drugs to let your fans down.
And anyone who really believes that Pete's an arse where his fans are concerned obviously don't have too much of a clue about the guy, he treasures his fans, obviously he has a funny way of showing it sometimes, but it's not like he doesn't make up for it with impromptu performances. He's also one of the only musicians i know of these days who makes the effort to go outside & meet those who couldn't get in to their gigs.
