Winners of the 55th Ivor Novello Awards

Photo and Press Association article:
Johnny Marr wins Ivor Novello gong
Johnny Marr, Bat For Lashes star Natasha Khan and Paolo Nutini are celebrating after winning gongs at the Ivor Novello Awards.

Former Smiths guitarists Johnny - who has formed collaborations with Billy Bragg, the Pet Shop Boys and Bryan Ferry as well as being associated with Modest Mouse, Electronic and The Cribs - was awarded the inspiration prize, while Paolo won the album award and Natasha's Bat For Lashes hit Daniel won best contemporary song.

Hugged by Noel Gallagher as he walked to the stage to pick up his gong, Johnny told the audience: "I always thought that the greatest thing you can achieve as a musician is to be called an inspiration - aside from a big house in Sunningdale obviously."

Remember when Morrissey won, and thanked Johnny? YouTube video of acceptance

Unhappy birthday
The lines sag heavy and deep for Moz
By MICHAEL BRODEUR - The Boston Phoenix

Excerpt:

In recognition of all this, O’Neil has pulled together a grand birthday celebration at Great Scott, with a bill of devoted Moz fans paying tribute to how old he is while trying to forget how old they are. The bill includes the Honors (who killed it as the Smiths for a Halloween show last year at the Pill), Jay Marsh of Taxpayer, Jake Zavracky of Cyanide Valentine, Ad Frank of . . . Ad Frank, Jesse Duquette of Emergency Music, and O’Neil himself with friends from the Information and the Sheila Divine banding up as Unhappy Birthday. O’Neil forecasts a healthy helping of Smiths singles, B-sides, latter-day solo hits, and a “surprising amount of Viva Hate.”
