This is what happened to me at the Morrissey concert last night at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. I just wanted to get this unfair treatment off of my chest.
I was very sick, but, nevertheless, I got into the line and waited for a good spot in the crowd. This was my very first Morrissey...
Your interpretation is a good one, as well. Lyrics mean different things to different people, depending on our life experiences, etc.
My personal interpretation of it is that it is describing an older man who is still emotionally young--who has never grown up. A Peter Pan.
Spring-Heeled...
That's happened to me several times, most recently with "A Rush And A Push And The Land Is Ours". Specifically, the line "Your youth may be gone, but you're still a young man". I suddenly KNEW exactly what that line means (what it means to me, anyway). I had been dating a man, for over a year...
I'm "RomanBrittania" on AIM, if any fans going to the Chicago show, as well, would like to chat. :) I intend on getting in line pretty early (fingers crossed!), so it would be good for us to put together a group of early birds who will save other people's spots in line so that people can take...
Shows what a dirty mind I have (:D ) that I, too, immediately thought of a condom the first time I picked up "Louder Than Bombs" and looked at the title... :
"I'd like to smash every tooth in your head" is a good one...add some crude profanity, and Marshall Mathers will have another smash (*ba-dum ching!*) hit! :D
D'OH!!!
It must have gone under my radar since it's about one's girlfriend, rather than one's wife... (OK, that's the best excuse I can come up with at the moment...)
I'm going to the Chicago show...it'll be my very first Morrissey concert!!!
I think that I somehow managed to miss the details of the afterparty, etc. Could someone catch me up? I would like to get together with you guys afterwards.
That sounds very much like something that I might type...I also had a failed relationship this year, with someone who I really was/am in love with. I have never felt a sense of belonging, anywhere. College graduation is coming up for me, and I have no idea where I'm going to go. My 21st birthday...
Julia is a die-hard fan...she goes to every Morrissey concert, I think, to the point that he's gotten to recognize her, and talks to her in a sort of joking way.
I think that Morrissey proves, whenever he changes lyrics in his songs, that there is no such thing as definitive lyrics (for his work, at least). His work is malleable, and evolves over time (because the technology has changed, so Joan of Arc is listening to her iPod instead of her Walkman, or...
Congrats! My 21st is coming up soon, as well...less than a month!
I think that the first step is to think about the Smiths/Morrissey songs (or albums) that mean the most to you...the ones that have a deep, personal, and unique meaning for you.
After that, I can give you some suggestions!
Hmmm...that's kind of a hard call, since there aren't that many Morrissey or Smiths songs about killing your estranged wife...:p
But how about sampling "Sweet and Tender Hooligan"? Maybe putting in a loop of "he was a sweet and tender hooligan"...I can hear that. Could work with a rap beat, yo.
