While I agree that there isn't really such a thing as a "casual Morrissey fan", I have to say that there definitely is such a thing as a "potential Morrissey fan". For the potential Morrissey fan, a Greatest Hits or Best Of collection might be exactly what he or she needs before delving into...
This reminds me of a couple of weeks ago, when there was a thread here talking about the words "no dad, no dad, no dad..." at the end of "Piccadilly Palare". I said to myself, "What? I've never heard that before..." So I went to the lyrics in the liner notes of "Bona Drag", and there was no...
Peter Gabriel did the exact same thing a couple of years ago...the two-disc package is called "Hit", but one of the CDs has the word "Hit" on it, and the other the word "Miss". It's a good idea, and, I believe, benefits the "casual fans" greatly, because it allows them to hear the radio hits as...
I heartily agree with Dave. The spotlight needs to be put squarely back onto the positive ("accentuate the positive..."). After all, Morrissey and his fans have a lot to celebrate right now: a new record deal, a European tour, some rockin' new songs, etc.
Using the rules stated in the original post (only 1 album per group/artist, no greatest hits, and no live albums), here are my 10, in alphabetical order by artist:
--Tori Amos: "Little Earthquakes"
--Kate Bush: either "The Dreaming" or "Hounds of Love" (don't make me choose!)
--Peter...
I think that the footage (because it isn't exactly the same video used for both songs...the various clips are arranged in a slightly different order for both, and there are some bits in the "I Started Something I Couldn't Finish" video that I swear were not in the "Stop Me If You Think You've...
In my opinion, "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" has been an absolutely electrifying opening number. I went absolutely gaga when I heard it in Waukegan and in Merrillville. It's a song thst is simply chock-full of energy. It's simply a great way to begin a Morrissey show...
I'm very glad that you've decided to give vegetarianism a try. Even if you don't become a vegetarian for life, you can at least ease up on your meat consumption (not eating it at every meal, for example).
I saw "Meet Your Meat" once, when I took a class on the Animal Rights Movement in...
I second "Jack the Ripper", definitely.
I would also add "Suffer Little Children" and "The Headmaster Ritual".
Unfortunately, I am not yet all that familiar with Alice in Chains, so I can't really make any recommendations based on only them. Who else does this person like to listen to?
I hope that you feel better soon. :)
A kind, wise woman once told me (after a Morrissey concert, in fact) to remember that everything changes...nothing bad lasts forever. :)
Hooray! :D
Great minds think alike, so they say. :)
"Ouija Board, Ouija Board" and "Hairdresser On Fire" are two of my favorite songs--not just from Morrissey, but favorite songs, period. They're both great to sing along to!
