If ROTT were a 10 track album

It would be perfect. I'd get rid of 'The Father Who Must Be Killed' (Morrissey is not a singer who can sing out of synch with the music), and 'I Just Want To See The Boy Happy' (neither is he a singer who sounds good on a tuneless song ... well it has a bit of a tune, but not a very good one). The lyrics on these are good, as ever, but they just don't do it for me.

I'd be interested to know what you guys think; I'm sure there must be some of you who love those songs and would probably get rid of others instead.

However, I do love the album as it is; there's something profoundly beautiful about a flawed product ... just look at Morrissey himself.

I'd turf out On the Streets I Ran and At Last I am Born. On no loftier grounds than mere personal preference.

Can't agree more..These two songs are probably Moz's worst ever...Can't believe he plays them live..

Why moan about a couple of tracks that you're not into? FF to the next track and let the rest of us enjoy the whole damn thing!

why bother posting. FF to the next post and let us be. Father who must be killed is not very good.

Re: Was I moaning?

I thought I was just setting up an intelligent debate. I guess you can't do that on this board.
Morrissey said that the critic should be a fan. I'm just following his advice; I love the album, and I love the man more than words can express.

On the Streets I Ran has an uplifting guitar melody and the ending is a hoot!

After listening to the album many times, all the songs are of a piece.

I love it dearly. I love YATQ, too, but for different reasons. This album is more immediate and emotional.

No, your original post was fine...But I wouldn't drop any tracks, while others would drop many

OTSIR is too frustrating - it's almost so bloody good and then ....it's like its legs fail it. I have the same trouble with Friday Mourning. And you either like the ending of OTSIR or you don't. I disliked it instantaneously and still dislike it *shrugs*. Horses for courses, I suppose....

I too feel that "The Father Who Must be Killed" is really the low point of the album. Its just not a good song. Musically, there is some pottential but I just can't seem to get into it.

Every other song has grown on me, even the 2 or 3 that intially didn't strike a chord with me whatsoever (Dear God, I Just Want to see the Boy, I'll Never Be...)

Get rid of "The Father..." and replace it with "I Knew I Was Next" or "Good Looking Man About Town" or even "I'm Playing Easy to get" and the album improves.

My thoughts exactly!! You are psychic.... or a witch!... burn the witch!!

:)

The Father Who Must Be Killed is the best song for me so it just goes to show how personal musical taste varies even within the same style of music.

I would remove Dear God and At last I Am Born.

I`m not too keen on To Me You Are A Work Of Art and I just Want To See The Boy Happy either but very few albums in my experience are so complete that you like every song.
And indeed how can they be as artists dont make albums to suit individuals.(Except maybe themselves of course)

"On The Streets I Ran" has some of the stronger lyrics on the album, and I like the way it leads into one of the album's best songs, "To Me You Are A Work Of Art."

Replace 'The Father...' with 'Good Looking...'

I would ditch "The Father..." for sure. Instead, I would replace it with "Good Looking Man...". Now that's an album.

Vivre la difference!

Ah, well, I'm not thrilled with To Me You Are a Work of Art, either, lol! For the record, here's what made the cut onto the limited space on my Mp3 player:

I Will See You in Far-off Places
Dear God Please Help Me
You Have Killed Me
The Youngest was the Most Loved
In the Future When All's Well
Life is a Pigsty (Although an Mp3 player really can't do it justice)
I Just Want to See the Boy Happy
+ all three b-sides so far.

Enjoy your favourites, everyone - whatever they are!

I wouldnt change anything...you people bitch to damn much

When you make your own album of original music thats anywhere near the quality of a Morrissey album then you can talk. Other wise shut the f*** up and stop pretending that you are a Music Producer/Singer/DJ/Music Critic etc etc etc.

we came to bury Morrissey, not to praise him
