I just went and reserved my copy of You Are The Quarry at the Virgin Mega-Store in Costa Mesa, CA and they gave me a 7" Single(maxi) for free. These are for a limited time on a first come first register basis. The songs on the 7" are 1.Irish Blood English Heart, 2.Its Hard to Walk Tall When You're Small, 3.Munich Air Disaster 1958 and 4. The Never-Played Symphonies. Hurry these are limited. I just wish I had a record player so I can hear these songs.

Did a search for Moz on iTunes (music store), and saw that the songs Irish Blood, English Heart, It's Hard To Walk Tall When You're Small, Munich Air Disaster 1958, and The Never Played Symphonies are listed as available for purchase on May 4. However, when you double click on the songs, a 30 second preview of each is available. The best of the lot (IMHO) is "It's Hard To Walk Tall..." with the line "Hey Ringo, it's sad, oh..."

There are some fantastic Morrissey concert pictures on the Wiltern website, under the past events link. These are the best I've seen so far this tour. For those of you who attended the L.A. shows, you'll remember these moments fondly. I know I did. And for those of you who couldn't attend, enjoy the pics!

Make sure you click on each picture to enlarge or else they look small and blurry.

The following review by Lee Gale appears in the May edition of Jack, a good quaility UK men's magazine. (scan)

'It's been seven long years since Morrissey's marvellous Maladjusted was released. Some of us are still yodelling, "We've never seen a/ Keener window cleaner" ("Roy's Keen") which the sort of stubborn indifference that only Mozza can inspire. Now Steven Patrick's back, on the ever-expanding Sanctuary label. "This is a much brighter-sounding album than my previous work," the singer mentions, but there's still a tremendous amount of bitterness to keep the die-hard fans miserably happy. "Why in Estonoia they say/ Hey you/ You fat pig" powers a grin on opening track "America Is Not The World", while "The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores" is full-strength Morrissey, a timely attack on... everything - coppers, taxmen, meaningless pop personalities ("No, it's just lock-jaw pop stars/ Thicker than pig shit".) You know he's making sense. He always does. "All The Lazy Dykes", "First Of The Gang To Die" and "I Have Forgiven Jesus" are formulaic Morrissey - Morrissey-y - although purists will struggle to find such truly terrific moments like "Last Of The Famous International Playboys" or "Alma Matters". Hopefully gems will reveal themselves with a few more listens, and not after being locked in a small, warm room for an hour with a stereo and a glass of water. Why so secretive, Steven? Still it's great to have the quiff in our lives again. The Manc is Man United - Premier League - to The Strokes' Carlisle United and The White Stripes' Rochdale. Let's hope Morrissey doesn't leave it so long to make another album."

There's no numerical rating, but that sounds like a 4/5 to me.

Morrissey's new album gets 5 stars out of five in the new addition of Attitude magazine. It is the most balanced and unbiased view that I have read yet. Attitude is a gay monthly magazine published in the UK. Reading this review has definitely whetted my appetite for the new album. It is the most honest and sincere review I have read.

The sticker is not really weather-proof.
The promo CD is copy protected!
I say that not as an international CD pirate, but rather as a tip off for those who have trouble playing these type of CDs on their systems / home computers. Let us hope the final album is not protected.

The Reps should have these all around the U.K. by the end of today.

Having listened to the album and being old enough to have seen the Smiths 7 times as a youth, I'm just as excited now as then!!

An anonymous person sends a review from the LA Weekly:

MORRISSEY
at the Wiltern, April 23

Morrissey’s You Are the Quarry (the monster spawns in May) took up most of this second of five Wiltern nights. And though we would’ve gone vegetarian cold turkey for even one more Smiths tune, we’ve taken a quick liking to his latest record, especially the softly strummed, flute-adorned “I’m Not Sorry,” the new hooligan “First of the Gang To Die,” and the hook-laden encore, “Irish Blood, English Heart,” during which the traditional tossing of the Morrissey shirt took place. (But oh to have caught the strategically placed flower that grew from his crotch.)

The whole band looked like a Dior Homme ad come to life. But the real fun of a Morrissey gig is the fashion frenzy in front of the stage. So props to that one rather angular, watch-where-you-point-that pompadour blocking many a short girl’s view. The obligatory set-list gripe: Why did our night have to be denied “The Headmaster Ritual”? We were ready to do the “military two-step,” man, but you didn’t lead the troops. We’ll always stretch out and wait for “Everyday Is Like Sunday.” There’s nothing like a pair of extended hands in front of a back-combed head of pomade beckoning Armageddon. (Siran Babayan)
