I hope that Vh1 does something on the Smiths! Its been so long, and they've done everyone else... Boy George and the wonders of his gay lifestyle with drug binging and cocaine sprinkled everywhere, Duran Duran and groupie-banging.. Maybe the Smiths are too wholesome to warrant their own hour-long cable special?? Maybe that's endearing. Don't you love the Smiths?!

Whats up with Johnny not answering questions on his site anymore. It was like he did two sets of questions each month. But i haven't seen a new set in more than a month. What gives. It must be the question i ask him about Morrissey. I had to.

I come to the morrissey site to get away from oasis, marr, and everybody else who can't get near his lyrical genius. Will the people responsible please find an outlet of their own and leave the Morrissey site for those of us who are not interested in artists of lesser ability.

Yeah, Marr was a lesser talent, wasn't he.....he shouldn't have been allowed in the Smiths, and Andy and Mike shouldn't have been allowed in, come to think of it. It should have just been Morrissey alone in the limelight warbling without music....

Morrissey warbling in the moonlight without music would have been enough for those of us who are into LYRICS.We don't care about guitar players;they're for bores who don't havethe attention span and intelligence to LISTEN TO CAREFULLY CRAFTED WORDS.Just remember, the next time you play air guitar at a party, you're boring someone.

What does Johnny Marr have to do with Oasis? besides being their one of their most famous fans.

p.s. the Smiths were never famous enough in America - they won't get a special.

Sorry to correct you Patricia, but I don't play the air guitar...Yes, I agree that the man's come up with more great lyrics than anyone else, but it's not just his lyrics, it's also his voice and melodies.
Part of what made the Smiths such as great band to me is the combination of voice, guitar, bass and drums...call me strange but that's the way it is.
Perhaps you're not a fan of music, though..

Sorry but I do not believe Marr was a lesser talent. Every member of the Smiths made them who they are and each one of them contributed to the bands success. Imagine if Joyce was a crappy drummer you wouldnt have all the good combinations that he has done such as in "London". And although Marr did write all the music it wouldn't have sounded as good if Andy couldn't play bass as well as he did. Marr and Morrissey just have different talents, Marr can write music and Morrissey can write lyrics. Please, please, please hear me out......don't judge the Smiths and put Morrissey on a pedastol, they all have talent directed in different ways.
Goodnight and thank you!

I just saw the VH1 ad. That's messed up. Of course there was a clip of them saying they are the best band of the 90s, best band since the Beatles, blah blah blah.

Where's my Smiths/Moz Behind the Music?
Where's my Pearl Jam Behind the Music?
Where's my Bjork Behind the Music?
Where's my Blur Behind the Music?
If they're gonna do a BtM about a British band that emerged in the 90s, Blur comes miles before Oasis. While Oasis are making unexceptional and boring music; music with which they aspire to the Beatles with, Blur are actually making music you can hold up to the Beatles.

Oasis are only getting a BtM episode because they are big in the UK and were pushed on the US which was accepted for a while (Oasis are very popular in the used CD section now you may have noticed). They are hype. All the advertisement for the BtM episode talked about was their attitudes. Oh, sorry that others haven't created enough trouble and hype to get a BtM episode.

Their latest album is flopping in the US, right? I hope so. I'd love it if the UK would turn their backs on them too. What are they thinking?!?!

How can you guys say Johnny Marr is not as important as Morrissey and is "a lesser talent".
The music he created with Steven was such incredibly, beautiful, dream-like music that, along with Morrissey's words, takes me to other worlds..i love Marr, i love Morrissey, and Andy and Mike. They are all very special and talented individuals..

love,

Listen Moz Gurlie, as much as you and I know that the Smiths was four people, some people here think that it was Morrissey and Co.
Personally I think Andy's contribution was incredibly under-rated, and I have been in arguments in other pages with certain other people regarding that.

But then again, who cares? We enjoy the songs!

SUEDE started the whole brit pop thing, Oasis and Blur are dreadfully mediocre.....hmmm....remember when morrissey covered SUEDE's song "my insatiable one" in 1992. HE covered THEM! Enough said.

I can't believe Johnny Marr! Ahhh I hate Oasis! They are such Rubbish! I wish they (VH1)would do a Smiths/Morrissey "behind the music"! I think that would be cool! Come on I mean The Smiths came out in Guiness World Book Of Records, I feel that they should get their own damn "behind the music"!

One day I hung out at Borders reading an Oasis book. I skimmed through it and found Johnny Marr's name. I read about how he got a demo tape from Noel Gallagher and Johnny loved it so much that he gave it to his brother Ian, who was a DJ and he listened to it and told Alan McGee from Creation Records to go see them perform. It was at this show where Oasis were signed to Creation Records. So without our good ole' Mr. Marr, Oasis may have never been. So now what do you think of Johnny Marr? Creating such rubbish? He really knows what Music is. As does VH1. And their new album is still in the TOP10 in the UK.

first of all...isn't The Smiths consider like the godfather and created the term Brit pop for these future followers. I always thought The Smiths were defined as the essential Brit Pop band. i could be wrong...i have been before.

Another thought...where in the world or why was The Smiths in the Guiness book of world records. Was that a lie.

Finally Suede kicks ass and blur kicks arse every other record. For Oasis...they got good hooks but there lyrics are of no importance. But i do catch myself dancing to Oasis. "Supersonic" has a great sound. BUt the words...who knows. And eveybody knows why Oasis is on BTM. because of all there brother fighting, drinking, saying F**K every other word, thrashing hotels, being so god damn above themselves, etc etc etc. Creates for a good soap opera... and that my folks is the reason why there on BTM.

Hey Cowboy,

Its not a lie! The Smiths did come out in the Guinness World Book Of Records for "The Queen Is Dead" in 1986. I guess for The Most Independent Records Sold! I think you can find this fun fact in the Guinness World Book Of Records 2000 or some other one!mmmkay!

One thing we can say about Noel, is that in his youth he had good taste, His favourite bands were Smiths and The Jam, although all his taste was lost with time...........

Everyone should just calm down. You all know it was cool to see Marr on the show in some way. I watched it just to see his few seconds. He is not a lesser talent but a different one. On another website somewhere dedicated to excellent guitar playing they are disregarding the lyricist and idolizing the guitar player, let's be a little open minded here. By the way I loved him mentioning blood on the tracks as one of the all time classic albums being that he made some connection (in some way) between the two best lyricists and musicians of all time, morrissey and bob dylan. Even if it was just because he was in the smiths and had a vh1 blurb about dylan. Anyway, yeah, smiths/morrissey behind the music or something, definitely not implausible. they did a tony orlando, and vanilla ice and all, only a matter of time.
