I don't think her voice is particularly unique, I think Moz was probably just using her fame. It's a shame it didn't work out but if they used another similar type of singer I don't think people will care.

Yes, it is a shame it didn’t work. Though it’s been more interesting than if he worked with some ‘cool’ alternative singer, one that was acceptable to his fans. Defying expectations, most likely could have been one of the reasons he said yes to her request to sing on it. I see it as a loss.

I've only really paid attention to a few live recordings. Either way, I doubt I'll notice and/or care.

Yeah, I haven’t heard the clip in a while, but I remember hearing a backing vocal pretty loud in the mix. We can only hope a full version of it will be available someday.

Let's see how many times we can find quotes like this:

"But look at what has happened. Now we're in 2007..."

How is the new album going?

There is no new album and that's quite simply because, yet again, we do not have a record company. The industry is getting increasingly tedious and almost risible. In the past, we had all these hangers-on and sycophants - it was prostitution - and now there's... nothing. In The Smiths, we would...

What about the album?

An album may or may not happen. I feel the need to write songs but I may go back to releasing singles on independent labels. Let's face it - the only reason I can think of to justify signing onto a record label is for the marketing, which in turn allows one to get one's message across to more people, tour the world and ensure there's a future audience for one's output. Yet the labels I've been with have been so disasterous in their marketing that I can no longer think of a solitary reason to sign a deal. Unless I meet someone interesting working for a label, I may simply avoid them altogether and release singles on my own label in future. I know people say you can't do singles only but just look at the enormous success we enjoyed with the 'Boxers' single!

really? I thought they sounded alright in that clip we got from the Vegas show promo ad.

Though I’d really like to hear the whole studio version (hope it gets leaked) before I come to a final conclusion in my judgment of her contribution.

Yeah she sounds fine but she's so bland and nondescript. She sounds like every other B level female pop singer. If not for her father we'd never have heard of her. You want a comparison of a truly special female singer? Joan Armatrading. That's an artist that stands apart from the pablum.

Yep, the story is old

from 2:24 on …

Agree, but it probably wouldn’t have ruffled any feathers if Morrissey got someone the fans would have expected him to. And as we know, Morrissey occasionally likes to ruffle the feathers.

Him working with Iggy is pretty cool, especially when one considers Morrissey is a fan of his, but then again. hasn’t Iggy guested on other artist’s work? which has kind of taken the shine off of this collaboration with Morrissey a little, for me. That’s not to say that I’m not looking forward to hearing it.

"But I can't stop drinking. It's in my blood."

"But I can't stop drinking. It's in my blood."

The secret of our happiness is unconditional love
I just wanted to make her smile
And make it last for a while
Do all the things you can do at home
Maybe once in a while get away somewhere special
Create a memory that would last forever
In those days we spent together

They say the secret of our happiness is unconditional love
And brotherhood and trying to be good and trying not to drink
But I can't stop drinking, it's in my blood
In and out of trouble, while keeping yourself alive
Not giving cold down in the wastes of the grim and mire
In the dark and the sun of the mire
Not getting wasted, not being a cheat, a killer or a liar
Not getting pulled down in the wastes of the mire
In the darkness of the mire, in the darkness of the mire
I'd rather be a lover than a liar
I'd rather be a lover than a supplier

If the secret of happiness is unconditional love
Why don't you miss me?
Well, sometimes I do, like when you're away
And I feel a need for you
I feel it like the day we met all those years ago
Those times were hard to hold on to
But nothing stays the same
We are forever moving, like the dancing of the flame
Life is so unstable, always changing, it never stays the same
Like the atom and that bomb that causes so much pain

So I came in from the cold with nowhere left to go
And I gave away my freedom and the calling of the wild
So that I could be with you, I chose to be with you
So I came in from the cold and I chose to be with you
I chose
To be (growls)
With you

Chose to be with you

yeah, you see what I mean then.

I wish Moz would write a poem like Bernard's (above) and let Iggy talk the entire thing out like in Stray Dog. Love that song.

Incidentally, the band released a beer with the same name as the song, lol.

Vocalist Bernard Sumner recalled to NME: "It was quite a special moment to play with him, actually, because the first time I ever went round to (late Joy Division vocalist) Ian Curtis's house, he said, 'Have you heard this?', and he put on the brand new Iggy record, and I thought it was absolutely brilliant."

Strange that the Iggy album that Ian played to Bernard, may have been the same one Ian played for his own pleasure just before he left this planet.

that is funny.

The blunt and honest answer is: it'll emerge in some version in the next 10 years, after his death.
