Morrissey's Alleged Girlfriend...

I remember reading somewhere recently that Morrissey referred to a girlfriend in a letter to one of his penpals in the early eighties sometime..was just wondering if anyone knew any details about this?..................

(p.s. i'm clearly jealous, obviously)

It's from his letters to Robert Mackie in 1980/1981. "I have a girlfriend called Annalisa. We're both bisexual. Really hip, eh? I hate sex." There used to be a webpage with scans of the letters, but it's gone now (fortunately, I saved them. :) )

It was probably Annalisa Jablonska, the girl who was credited on The Smiths debut for talking on "Pretty Girls Make Graves" & laughing/crying on "Suffer Little Children". Johnny Marr described her in Simon Goddard's book as a nice girl dressed in a 60s style, and said he only saw her once, when she came to do the voice.

I wonder if he still hates sex?

"Will you send me some pornography? Do you HAVE a girlfriend? Do you LIKE girls? I have a girlfriend called Annalisa. We're both bisexual. Real hip, huh? I hate sex."

Don't you love it that he asks for porn, and then says he hates sex? Typical Moz, always contradictory. :D

i never realized that he quotes a song from under the floorboards in one of the letters...interesting!

He says so many flippant and joking things in those letters; I fail to see how the letter definitely means that the girl he mentions was his girlfriend or even that he had one at the time. The girl might even be purely imaginary.

I'm not surprised at him being bisexual (I always suspected he was, maybe a bit more inclined towards men, which breaks my heart obviously) but I am surprised at him admitting it and naming the person.

Or she might have been a real person but they were going out in a fashion that you would call "going out with someone" when you're 12. "Shall we go out?" "Sure, why not" and then nothing happens. :)

haha morrissey is really harsh - i can't believe that robert persist to reply..

and, though slightly envious, i allways liked that the girl is named Anna ^^

(reading this i really feel like getting a penpal, just to receive something else than bills in the mail...)

Those letters were written more than 20 years ago, it's not relevant these days.
